I thought I'd finally drop in after browsing this site a few times.
I'm a recent convert after catching the Sci-Fi Firefly weekend at the end of last year. For my luck (or sins) I've discovered this gem, just in time for the DVD releases and forthcoming movie (coughs, shuffles feet and looks guiltily at the floor) my only question is how did you only early adopters manage in the void after the US airings ended!!!!

I'm sure this story is familiar to many, but I accidently stumbled across Firefly whilst building up courage to tackle another round of house unpacking and came in half way through 'The Train Job'. Starred open mouthed at the screen, with numerous 'What the f......' before really getting intrigued.

After Saturday and Sundays chores had been left by the wayside, I wanted to know more. A show with the characters this well developed, this well gelled, the scripts this complex,- simply couldn't be a first series. This MUST have been a summary of episodes aired in the weeks before or a repeat of a previous yr's season before the next starts showing,- there MUST be more of this waiting to be enjoyed (oh dear!).

A search on the web revealed the sorry truth, that really was all folks, gorram FOX again!!!
I was surpised how annoyed I was. I was raised on Trek (and Battlestar Galactica - but it didnt affect my upbringing) but whilst I enjoyed the shows on air, I've never had a plastic spaceship hanging from the ceiling or had any dodgy lycra jumpsuits in the wardrobe. But with Firefly I really CARED about these characters and wanted to see more.

Luckily the region 1 boxset was not long off and the movie news has got better and better as this year progresses. (I'm still waiting for the region 2 boxset so I can run them off the laptop at work.)

So sorry for not sharing the pain for longer, but I can't let myself feel guilty, for the only way to have avoided that, would have be for the DVD never to have been released and the movie not to be going ahead, and we can't have that!!

Kudos to those that have kept this gem alive and mine's an extra large popcorn at the muliplex.

Welcome BlueOldSun. Nice to have you w/ us. It is always a pleasure to welcome a new Browncoat to the site.

How did I make it during that dark time between being put on "hiatus" by Fox and the DVD set release? It wasn't easy, but pitching in w/ the campaigns to find the show a new home, the news of the DVD set release, and this site most of all got me through. There are some great people here who carry on great discussions and share info that pulled me and others through.

You are coming in at a time when the DVDs are available, and the movie is in the works, so it is not so tough now. Lucky for you.

You sound a lot like me. Can't tell ya how frustrated I felt at having become a huge fan of anything Joss Whedon and his crew have done and watch tptb just throw it out like bad milk.

I'm looking at Buffy, Angel, and Firefly as the best genre TV since X-Files (not the last two seasons of course) and yet I seem to be in a minority online. The Fanboy/Reality TV crowd seem to have come together in a loud cry of "crap is good!" leaving tptpb with the distinct impression that this is all they need bother doing and to quickly fire Joss Whedon and his ilk as they are obviously not worth the money or trouble.

I'm a recient convert also. I've been a big fan of Joss' other shows, but missed Firefly during it's television run because I was working on the set of a film I was making with my production partners. When you are making a movie, you find little time for any TV viewing or going to any movies!

As it turns out, we found out the the episode "Bushwacked" was using sets (the derelict ship) that several members of our production team had designed and built for an unsold pilot. They had built the sets years ago, and we were all wondering how the old interiors had held up. I bought the box set just to check out how they were shot for the episode and what condition the sets were in after years of sitting in storage.

We were thrilled with how great they looked (very "Nostromo"), and how well the Firefly crew had lit and filmed the sets. They had added several flat screen monitors to hide the old tube monitors in the bridge set, and had moved and expanded a few sets, but otherwise they pretty much looked like they did when they had first been built.

To say the least, we were impressed. Impressed with both the cinematography and with the acting and storyline. I had to watch more, and after viewing Serenity parts 1 & 2 and the Train Job, I was hooked. After viewing every episode several times, I am now a confirmed Browncoat!

I hope that the Movie is a huge success, and pray that some smart network exec gives this show another chance. If it does come back to TV, I'm going to do my best to convince Mr. Whedon to let me be a part of it. I love this show!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.
