Hey! This post is focused toward those who have seen the press screener and wish to share a little info.

My question is: What is the music like (the score, opening credits)? What is the style? Is it good?

Any information would be appreciated!

Buffy: Everybody started singing and dancing?
Dawn: I gave birth to a pterodactyl.
Anya: Oh my god, did it sing?

I don't have any first hand info, but all the reports indicate that the advance material was just 40 minutes of rough-cut stuff, no music or titles. I'd bet that they're still working on the music. I certainly doubt that they'll use "Might as well be walking on the sun", as they did on the latest trailer.

The music that was in front of the scene that screened at Comic-Con this past weekend was very spare, fiddle played with a bow. I thought it worked well. Definitely, not "Walkin' on the Sun" like in anyway!

Fiddle, eh? Sounds good. There's nothing I like better than a violin score.

So... if it's a fiddle, then it'll be a little blue-grassy? I think bluegrass would be a good style for a space western. But maybe it'll be a different genre?

Anya: The text I wanted, Giles took it with him. He has this thing that owning a book makes it, like, his property.

I couldn't quite put a tack in it genre-wise. I don't think I heard any bluegrass banjo or mandolin, but then again, I didn't hear any slide guitar or other obvious "country/western" stuff either... I think there was some guitar in addition to the fiddle. Very simple, but nice.

Does anyone know if Christophe Beck is doing Firefly's score? I know he stopped Buffy to spend time with his children (or something like that), but I'm wondering if he's at least contributing to Firefly's score.

Anya: "Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins, 20 years old, born on the 4th of July, and don't think there weren't jokes about that my whole life, Mister, 'cause there were. "Who's our little patriot?" they'd say, when I was younger, and therefore smaller and shorter than I am now."
Watcher: "So, you spell it A-N-Y-A, then?"

Well I have seen the 40 minute "Serenity" Pilot a bunch of times and it was by no means a rough cut, it had what I would consider a complete score.

It may need some sweetening, added sound effects but I think the score is fairly if not entirely complete.

I was very impressed.

The show simply opens, no opening scene that comes about 5 minutes in.

The soundtrack is very sparse, or how should I say in the background to start with.

It has a wester flair more than a bluegrass tint.

There is a solo guitar doing some plucking over the classic orchestrated score. But until the opening you really do not think of it much as it blends well.

Then when we see the opening shot of Serenity powering up and taking off the music swells and you get the full on orchestra action with a western overlay, it was very moving and I thought it worked quite well with the silence of space.

I think the score will be very playful, very western at times, but deep and serious at others.

I enjoyed it.

Out..............
