HBO Is Ruining My Life

...or maybe it's making it better. I don't know anymore. There are a few movies they continue to show in high rotation on multiple HBO channels, and I've become addicted to them.

They are :

The Blind Side
Slumdog Millionnaire
Whip It

Any time I'm channel surfing and I come across these movies, no matter what part they're at, I find myself stopping to watch them. I guess I just love and adore these movies, but that's sort of a new phenomenon for me.

What about youze all? Are there movies like that for you? Movies that you find so compelling for some reason you feel you must watch them whenever they're on no matter how many times you've seen them before?

Sci-fi is different, it doesn't count in this thread. I assume that most, like me, do watch a lot of sci-fi stuff in high rotation, but the movies I cited above are all non-sci-fi; movies that move my emotions and spirit more than most others. Last night I'm having trouble falling asleep, so the TV goes back on, and at midnite...uh oh, here comes Slumdog on HBO. Watched the whole thing again and went to sleep at 2:30 am. My alarm clock goes off at 5:00am. What a life!

I've got a few like that. The most recent that comes to mind is The Departed. FX showed it a bunch over the summer, and even though I have it on DVD, every time I'd come across it, I'd stop and finish it.

HBO ruined my life in the mid to late 80's.

I watched ALIENS over 100 times, and Weekend at Bernies more than that(I don't even like that movie, it was just on constantly).

BTW, add Casablanca to the list above, except that it's TMC showing it over and over, not HBO. That one tears me up too, and I can't take my eyes off it. Alons enfants de la Patrie, le jour de gloire est arrivé!

That's hysterical! Way back in 1986 I was out of work with a bad back. There was a multiplex movie theater right next to my chiropractor's office, and over the course of a few weeks, I saw Aliens and Top Gun probably ten times. I remember thinking at the time that Aliens was the greatest sci-fi movie ever made, plus it really scared the crap out of me.

Couple of movies hooked me like that, namely "Joe vs. the Volcano" and "The Big Lebowski".

The movies I value for repeated viewing tend to have a kind of lyrical quality to them, playing almost more like songs than traditional narratives.
