NervousPete had a lovely idea:

We're collecting funds for the US troops overseas to have copies fo Firefly readily available. Why doesn't someone take up a collection for the Brits to enjoy our wonderful band of nine, too? (I'd volunteer to do it myself, but my plate is already too full...)

Just got the DVD (here in Ireland) last week.
I have to say it was fantastic all round. I still have the commentaries to watch yet.

Hurrah! Thanks Astriana!

And I have absolutely no idea how to go about it. And also, considering that the MOD (Ministry of Defence) is one of the most callous, bureaucratic, self-centered government departments I have little hope of it ever getting past the pen pushers. No, really. You should see them.

But anyway! Perhaps if we raise the money for DVD sets ala the successful (and amazingly shiny) Firefly for US Navy scheme, then we might get a little somewhere. Post your thoughts! Or don't!

And welcome, Wes! Glad to see you here. Hope you enjoy your stay. I'm really new as well, and I've been made most welcome.

Cheers,

Pete

Do you mean have something similiar like the DVD for the Troops except make it for British troops or are you talking about British civilians?

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Nope, for the British troops - identical to what we've been doing for the US troops.

I'm game.

How would you do it?
How much do you need?
How do you plan to gather it?

I missed the U.S. DVD drive, but I'll sign up for a couple of $20's for our British brethren...

Yeah, I'd chip in. Also, I missed the US Navy program; will/should there be any other US programs? I am thinking that National Guard/Reserve units might be good subjects. Did the British send any TA units?

Well I'm not British, don't even play one on TV but I tend to keep track of our allies' deployments when I hear them on the TV/Newspaper/what have you.

Pretty sure the UK deployed Royal Marines, Commandoes, SAS, part (or all) of the First Armored Division, Royal Military Police units and Royal Engineers. I'm not sure if any of them were TA or not. That's the ground forces, I know Royal Navy and RAF are also involved. Someone from the UK probably knows exactly who was sent better than me.

I also want to take this time to say howdy to all the Brits here, I've been around your troops before and they're class acts, professional, courteous and brave. No matter what your politics about the war (on any side of the pond) you can be proud of your fine British military.

Love those guys and girls...even if they do have funny taste in booze.
