Doctor Who celebrates its 50th Birthday on November 23.

Not many TV shows can celebrate that while still airing episodes. Although there was a lapse of a few years.

Tom Baker was always my favorite. Fans would knit copies of his scarf just like Browncoats knit Jayne's hat.

As seen on the Mini-Episode "The Night of The Doctor", The War Doctor was the regeneration of Paul McGann's eighth Doctor. He is not considered The Doctor for purposes of numbering because the deeds he did "...out of necessity, and in the name of peace and sanity..." were felt unworthy of the name, even by himself. "The War Doctor" is just a convenient label.

His memories were mostly suppressed by the later regenerations because of the trauma of responsibility for his deeds -- and perhaps partially because his entire existence occurred during The Last Great Time War -- an event which is "Time Locked", and therefore inaccessible by normal means. (Who knows--no pun intended--what effect that might have on a Time Lord's memories.)

Loved the cameos by

And I'm incredibly jazzed to have just participated, even if only in a couch potato mode, with a planet-wide event. Nobody outside the BBC cast and crew knew a single spoiler before we did, my friends. Now that's entertainment!
