As far as I know, there is no plan to release (or make available) the soundtrack used in the television show (sadly). I am looking forward to the soundtrack from the movie. But for everyone too impatient to wait (or wants to use music for their RPG), I'd like to get some suggestions.

1. Cold Mountain: Most if not all tracks fit the Firefly mood, IMHO.

2. Black Hawk Down: "Vale of Plenty", possibly others.

Other suggestions?

Thank you for this post! I've been investigating choices myself, and the BHD track fit the setting perfectly. I found that many things by Ennio Moricone were very close, but had part that I disliked, or didn't fit. (Ennio wrote the music for a great many western films; maybe a bit of creative sound editing would do it) But the tracks:

Cheyenne - Ennio Moricone

Seemed to be fitting if a party was in a border world planet in a non-combat situation

The Last of the Mohican - Ennio Moricone

Not exactly sure when to use this, its just a cool westerny chart.

Sorry, neither of those fit the bill incredibly well, and I may just be on crack - but if enough people join in, I'm sure we can build a big enough repetoire for one campaign at least

I hope they put out a soundtrack. Since I love country music I was immediately drawn to FF's opening theme and the series' music.

For example, to me, the show has more of an old-time class country feel, not like current country music. Like a bluegrass sound. Or, perhaps fans don't consider the music of Firefly to be country at all?

IMO, I think bluegrass would suit FF well, especially Allison Krauss and Union Station, and Nickel Creek. Krauss has a very lilting voice and pure sound, and Nickel Creek has some amazing-sounding harmonies. Some types of bluegrass can sound very twangy, but I think it suits the overall "Western outlaw" theme to the show.

In addition, Celtic folk sounds would play well, like traditional jigs, whirls, and ballads, that can be found from Irish groups Altan and Solas. Lots of fiddles, drums, and a fast beat that makes me think of Firefly, as well as some beautiful melodies all sung in Gaelic. A lot of the traditional Irish music has a lot of "us against them" drive to it that reminds me of FF, too.
