BRENDA
Quote:Originally posted by JEWELSTAITEFAN: It is a TV Show on one of our networks. It is a spin-off of FBI, which is about a female Agent and a Muslim Agent. For Most Wanted, there seems a lot of background and interaction with characters and storylines about Native Americans, or First Peoples. The main character's wife, and daughter, and in-laws, and co-workers. And some episodes are centered on such environs. If you haven't yet, I keep thinking you might enjoy them.

I've marked it in my local tv magazine. It's on tomorrow night.(Tuesday)

Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: Saw the episode tonight. Was really very sad and showed the destruction and pain that was brought on by the residential school system. Very hard for me to watch as I began thinking about my grandmother and her siblings. The motto for the residential schools was given, : "Kill the Indian to save the man." That rung some bells in my mind. I've heard it somewhere but it must have been when I was a child.

I've heard it somewhere but it must have been when I was a child. That was a repeat episode. Other episodes had given me an inkling that you might enjoy them. But when I saw this episode in it's first airing, I really was hoping you had watched it. The background, perspective that it provided was unique from what I've seen elsewhere on Prime Time TV. I thought it was powerful and thought provoking. Also delving into the heritage with the daughter. Plus some of the underlying tensions and animosity between different Natives - from different tribes/Nations, different areas, different reservations, Tribal Police, different countries, etc. If you haven't caught on by now, the mother (Jess' wife) was a full blood who died in combat. If you found it hard to watch, think of how hard it was to get that episode on air. The writers formulating that story, the actors bringing life to those roles. I didn't quite catch on whether Residential Schools was only a Canada thing, or if it was in USA as well. I did feel that most of the people who died IN that episode really kinda deserved it, but not those who died before the episode started. Was glad it ended without another needless death.

Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: Caught it last night. Another good episode. Tally had a problem at school then her dad went after a woman who was obviously a nut case. Think Jess was disappointed at the last scene of the show when he found out that his daughter really didn't want his help in dealing with a classmate. She just wanted someone to vent to.

Yeah, I stuck that in the file labeled "men think they are supposed to solve any problem, but women just want to talk about the problems witout resolving any" but Tally injected the angle of her younger age. I thought it was going to be more about the spirituality of her tribe with animals such as Ravens. That killer was a nutcase woman as well. And then her friend intentional abandoning her kid as well....

Jess doesn't seem to have done as much before, and certainly expected her to perform all of the cultural training from her side of the family. Great that Jess has the In-Laws to fill in for that portion of learning now, and the excuse that they are live-in or babysitting or housesitting for him is wonderful.

Quote:Originally posted by JEWELSTAITEFAN: I always thought Jess had always encouraged the traditional cultrual teachings, but just had never been directly involved with it - letting the wife handle all of that allowed mom-daughter to have a special bond outside of dad, but now he is willing to fill in or intrude on that special world.

He started with a firing range. That particular episode had a scene which stuck with me since the first time I say that episode, during the Lockdown when I wasn't posting here. The moron running the Firing Range, and having No Clue what a Minute Of Angle was, or arguing with a sniper about how to shoot, that guy should have been the first one down. That he survived was a complete injustice.

Quote:Originally posted by JEWELSTAITEFAN: Brenda, head's Up. This past Saturday I saw another episode of Most Wanted. It was in the 7pm Central Time slot - the first time slot of the 3 hours of prime time. I just happened upon it while channel surfing, caught it fairly close to the opening of the show. I don't know if it was a "new" episode, or if this is a new slot for the show. But I had not seen the episode before. It had to do with stalkers, and stalking. I didn't detect any angle about First Peoples, or cultural topics, so maybe not a must-see for you. So maybe keep an eye out. I've seen more ads for that Declassified show, always saying it is in the time slot on Tuesday that Most Wanted used to be in.

Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: Good start to the second season. Glad they were able to talk the boy out of killing himself. Also think it was a good idea to include Jess's father in this episode. Coming around to play grandpa and show off his new girlfriend. This side line should be interesting if they include more of it.

I had not seen any ads for this specific episode prior to last night. New episode does look interesting.

Nice change of pace. Too bad about the young man. Don't know anything about the series of books. Would have to look them up. Who's the author?

Who's the author? The author is Bill O'Reilly. I believe they are non-fiction, sort of re-looking at history from different perspective perhaps. The Crazy Horse entry sounds sympathetic to the First Peoples experience. I think he was referred to as the best military Commander in North America.
