The next season of Nathan's show "The Rookie" will be delayed. I just watched the season 5 ender tonight. They went out with a bang for sure.

I'm loving the Late Night thing.

There's way too many of those shows today anyhow. The last two great Late Night comedians were Craig Ferguson and Conan. Everyone else since has been trash.

Hopefully when the dust settles all but one or two of them are gone and cancelled.

Growing up in a Republic was nice... Shame we couldn't keep it.

Late night chat is not healthy, ratings have tanked. When Cordon left they didn't replace him on 'The Late Late Show, the show's been canceled. Because Disney/ABC is on hard times I wouldn't be shocked if Kimmel gets the axe...or lets him retire, if ya know what I mean. The ratings for these shows have been under 2 million viewers, (Kimmel under 1.5 million) the hosts make tens of millions of dollars a year, if the strike goes on for months will anybody care if these shows come back?

Un-funny Comedian to join the poverty line?

I thought comedians should be able to write their own material

2007–08 Writers Guild strike cased disruption, some show were prepared and pre ordered script other delayed the show for a year. Maybe they will just go to a bunch of computer guys in Cambodia, Peru, Georgia, Albania, Kenya, Vietnam or some place and ask them to chat with an AI all day and get the Robot to write the next tv show comedy.

The Robot it might even do a better job than our unfunny hive mind comedians

You would think that the show could go on, they come out and just do off the cuff interviews, but it looks like these dorks couldn't ad-lib a burp at Burger King.

Shows written by an AI would likely be better than most of the crap on streaming now, maybe an AI could fix 'Star Trek'?

If the writers were any good at their jobs instead of focusing on ESG scores, AI would be a long way from taking their jobs from them.

Even the manatees that make Family Guy are going to lose their job to AI, and they're downright talented compared to Disney employees.

I wanted to check the article for the most relavent point before commenting and I was happy to see they at least put it in there:

Quote:

AI chatbots, screenwriters say, could potentially be used to spit out a rough first draft with a few simple prompts (“a heist movie set in Beijing”). Writers would then be hired, at a lower pay rate, to punch it up.

Screenplays could also be slyly generated in the style of known writers. What about a comedy in the voice of Nora Ephron? Or a gangster film that sounds like Mario Puzo? You won’t get anything close to “Casablanca” but the barest bones of a bad Liam Neeson thriller is not out of the question.

The WGA’s basic agreement defines a writer as a “person” and only a human’s work can be copyrighted. But even though no one’s about to see a “By AI” writers credit at the beginning a movie, there are myriad ways that regenerative AI could be used to craft outlines, fill in scenes and mock up drafts.

Yes, AI is currently incapable of writing anything that a great human writer could make at this point in time, but eventually I believe it will happen.

I don't blame them for being scared.

For most of the rest of the working world, this has already happened. Whether it be automation in factories and farm work displacing the workforce once needed to do things by hand, or the ever-increasingly impressive computer technology that has displaced even the need to send work overseas, you'd be hard-pressed to find any profession that hasn't been severely downsized because of technology. Hell... even freakin' LAWYERS are scared right now.

Quote:

“We’re not totally against AI,” says Michael Winship, president of the WGA East and a news and documentary writer. “There are ways it can be useful. But too many people are using it against us and using it to create mediocrity. They’re also in violation of copyright. They’re also plagiarizing.”

I'd tell the writers to just Get Gud and stop focusing on IDPol, but the simple fact of the matter is that most of the writers employed by Hollywood today are not good at their craft and will never be capable of getting good at it.

I mean, the nerve of this writer complaining that AI is culpable of copyright violations when nearly everything that comes out today is derivative of an older and greater work of art with its only "virtue" being some sort of gender/race/sexuality swap that allows them to blame the audience for being bigots when it fails.

And it's probably too late to put the shit back in the horse. Why go to the trouble and expense of finding and hiring actual talent after laying off all of these talent-less people who were only hired because they ticked boxes when they can just have AI write the meat of everything while paying some people with even less talent to flesh the first draft out?

Zack Whedon seems to be more active than Joss, so is Joss done?

I dont know if Joss will work again. I have not seen Joss do anything since the SJW movement turned on him
Avengers Age of Ultron directing then he tried to save 'Justice League' but his reshoots are Uncredited

He then made films on Abortionists, SJW BLM Antifa stuff and Planned Parenthood

Ayn Rand and the Sub-Humans

It's been like 1 day since they've come back and we've heard that Kevin Smith's He-Man is getting a 2nd season, they're going to reboot The Office and Disney is going to make a live action remake of Bambi.

Is it too late to go back on strike?

Bad timing. Bad, bad, timing.

Last year it would have been a mistake to strike, but this year, especially the back-half of 2024 is just about the worst time they could have gone on strike in the last decade. For game developers, that even includes the very bottom of the Covid debacle, since video game companies were doing gangbusters when 30% of the country was forced to stay at home and all that free money was being pumped into the economy.
