As most of you know, Angel's Food Drive & Mutant Boosters sent 2 cakes to Joss and the cast/crew of Serenity. They had a Joss 'To Do' List on them.

We are planning on sending another cake (just one this time.) We were planning on having it sculpted to look like Serenity, large enough to feed 50 people. Then we heard from the bakery... that it would cost *gasp* $600.00.

OK, so on to plan B. We will have a sheet cake, with the picture of Serenity on a piece of fondant, with the background airbrushed to look like stars and planets.

We're planning to say 'Keep flying' or 'Keep Serenity Flying'.. something like that. (Suggestions are appreciated. Post em here!)

Anyhoo... this cake will be from Mutant Boosters and.... wait for it.... Fireflyfans.net. (Don't worry, I asked permission!)

So, any input would be appreciated. We aren't accepting donations yet, because I still have to call and OK it with the studio.

Please let me know what you all think of this and any input you have about the cake. We also need a message for the card, so input is needed for that, too.

I think a sheet cake is a shiny idea. Your suggestion of a pic of Serenity on a background of stars an a planet is a great one.

"Keep flyin'" is good for the wording. It is simple and that phrase has so much meaning from the show, for us browncoats, Joss & cast, and now the movie. Maybe alter it just a bit; "We're still flyin'".

What do you think?

This is so great. I'm looking forward to being able to donate.

Suggestion-wise, does anybody think it would be maudlin to do a riff on "The Message"? Like, "When you can't run anymore, you crawl..." etc. until maybe the big kicker at the bottom of the cake was "Thanks for taking us home" or something like that?

Could be I am a mondo dweeb. Could be for the accompanying card.

Maybe, since it will be a large pic of Serenity, it could be, "You treat this ship right, she'll be with you for the rest of your life." Like, we gave her a cake! Then of course there's always the octoperfect, "Once you've found Serenity, you can't live anywhere else."

Thanks for the suggestions!

I called Barry Mendal Productions with the info. The person I spoke with is checking to make sure it's OK to have them delivered. Cross your fingers and toes.

*goes to happy place, thinking about having cakes delivered to the set of Serenity II & III over the next couple of years*

I like it Sarahetc! That is great! Right to the point & expresses how we all feel; that Serenity is home to us as well as the BDHs.

You all need to research other bakeries. My mom's wedding cake company produced an 3d Enterprise-D with real flashing lights on it to feed 20-25 people for about $65. I don't mean to cast aspersions, but, based on the sheet cakes from before, you're not getting your money's worth.
