TRIBES

I'm a Star Wars fan. Have been for many years. So are Tens of millions of fans world wide.
Probably 100s of millions of fans.
It's most likely the end of this Big screen Sci Fi double trilogy money maker. No more Star Wars movies after next year.

But there is Joss Whedon and our BDH in the next big time Trilogy..... Serenity....

I believe most of the top ten all time box office movies are
Sci Fi and Fantasy... Matrix, E.T., LOTR, Alien Series, Star Wars, etc. Serenity can be the next one.

There is already a proven Sci Fi fan base out there. Need to get them into the theaters. We as Firefly/Serenity fans have less than 4 weeks to make our mark before the monster hits the big screen.

Personally I feel that April 15 or the 8th would be a better opening for our BDM. More time for word of mouth to get out and work its charm.

Folks want to be entertained with a great story. Truly believe our Serenity will be great entertainment.

Joss and our BDH are doing there part.
Universal must do the rest of their part...Promoting the movie.
And Firefly/Serenity fans will get our fellow brethren
Star War fans into the theater.

It could be the greatest movie opening
in April movie history.

Than the rest of our trilogy....

Actually, 4 weeks is plenty - the reality is that the movie will make the vast majority of its money in the first two weeks. If its still making money in week 3 and 4, then the cinemas may well be encoruaged to keep it there as an obvious alternative to people that turn up for Star Wars III and find it full - alternatively, SW may even provide a resurgence for Serenity.

My bigger concern would be if something big was opening the weekend after - because that could suck screens away if the movie opens on a "limited" number and wants to expand, or even if it opens wide (does anyone know yet how many screens they are aiming to open in?).

The plus of opening just before Star Wars is that most studios won't want to open in the 2 or 3 weeks before hand.

If my information is correct, when Static got in touch with Universal's North Carolina distributer, he mentioned that they had planned a wide release. We just wanted to secure distribution for our Big Damn Premiere shindig.

Misguided by Voices is right. Even at DragonCon it was mentioned that the first 2 weekends are the key to assuring a second and third Serenity movie. A number I heard mentioned was $40M. In addition to convincing everyone we know to see the movie, is to see the movie numerous times ourselves those first two weekends. Yes, paying for a ticket for each showing or else it doesn't get counted towards the receipts. I plan on seeing Serenity at least 8 times opening weekend. That's gonna be a lot of popcorn!

Any sci-fi fan whether they like Star Wars or not can probably be "dragged" to see Serenity, especially when asked by friends. If they don't like the idea, then pay for their ticket!

I've been proposing a "wait a week" campaign against the next Star Wars movie. The idea is that opening weekend grosses are such a big deal, and this movie is an inevitable moneymaker anyway, that getting all intelligent Star Wars fans to specifically wait one week before seeing the movie sends George Lucas a powerful message, specifically, stop making sucky movies.

If Star Wars people decide to go see Serenity again that week instead, I'd be okay with that.

I have a suggestion. I'm going to see if I can put together little downloadble, flyers that everyone can print, cut out and place at the freebie seciton of their local comic book shop. I was hoping some of you could help me with slogans like, "Need your sci-fi fix but cant wait for Star wars? Watch Serenity." or "The Black of Space never looked so cozy" I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

I love Embassy's idea of waiting a week to see Star Wars. I've previously waited on line for hours for the "privilege" of getting into the midnight show of Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. With the crap Lucas has been giving the fans lately (Greedo shoots first). I think waiting a week or two is an excellent idea! Thanks.

Space Pirate you may want to try to post to 11th hour she made several excellent flyers announcing Serenity. We had them at DragonCon at the Firefly fan table. I believe they may be almost exactly what you have in mind, except they have no reference to Star Wars.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

All good suggestions.

We as fans have to do our part if the BDM is to be a success and we are to have any hope of a second & third movie. We do not have a great deal of time.

What is needed is for each & every fan out there to convert as many people as they can between now & the movie release date. Friends, family, co-workers, fellow students, total strangers, whatever. Loan out your DVD set, point people to websites such as this one, talk to people about what a great show Firefly is and that the movie is on its way, hang up 11th Hours beautiful Firefly & Serenity posters everywhere you can to generate interest.

Of course we are all going to have to go see the movie ourselves as many times as we can in the first two weeks. Opening weekend #s need to be huge to show Universal that there is interest and profits to be made from sequels. I know not all of us can afford to see the movie a dozen times, but I encourage each and everyone of you to go as many times as you can, take friends and family, buy an extra ticket in the memory of Lux.

The future of our verse is riding on this movie, so let's do what we can to repay Joss and our BDHs for their hard work.
