when reading through the summery of the movie i saw these names

Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Operative), David Krumholtz (Mr. Universe), Raphael Feldman (Fanty), Yan Feldman (Mingo), Michael Hitchcock (Dr. Mathias)

what do yall speculate about them?

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

There's one actor not listed at imdb yet that I am having a great time speculating about... Shoreh Aghdashloo.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0013037/

I think she's not listed because no one knows the character's name yet, but I've seen pre-production material that mentioned her and she has a stunt double listed.

I'm think she's either a Companion at the Academy, or a relative of Inara's. The woman is gorgeous. However, she has a stunt double, so I'm thinking she's attacked by reavers or some such. How this would fit in with the Academy, I have no idea, so I'm guessing Companion is out. Reavers wouldn't come that far in, right?

So is Inara going to have family that has been killed by reavers (possibly while on some outer-rim vacation)?

Where did you get the info that she's going to be in Serenity? You're right, she is gorgeous. As a 46-year old male, I really appreciate the mature female form, and she's zaftig, in all the right ways (although being a Tehrani, she might not appreciate that particular descriptive).

Be that as it may, my personal theory is that Inara and all the companions are skilled at weapons and assassination. Inara teaches Mal to swordfight, after all. And who better to perform an assassination of a powerful, high-ranking nabob than the Companion in his or her bed? I also believe that Inara's syringe contains a battle-enhancing drug, and that the Reavers would have rued the day, had they boarded Serenity.

Your information supports my theory. Ms. Aghdashloo is probably House Priestess, who goes ballistic against several enemies while under the influence of said drug, hence the need for a stunt double. See also my 3 posts on Firefly and Religion, from back in April, for more of my (and others) hypotheses on Companion religion. This casting decision supports my hypothesis there as well, IMO.

Respectfully,

zoid

I got a link from the official site:
http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/2508/notes.pdf
It looks like it's some general info aimed at industry types, nothing very spoilerish - that's where I first saw her mentioned.

Also, the imdb full cast listing, here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379786/fullcredits
has a stuntwoman listed for Ms. Aghdashloo.

Back to the original query about the other actors, I'm really looking forward to seeing David Krumholtz, he was great in "10 things I hate about you" and "Addams family values" though I don't think I've seen any of his other stuff (no I don't get out much). From what I've read about the role he'll be well suited to it.

I read that, and it was certainly the first time the document had been brought to my attention. I'd have to disagree that it's not spoilery, though. Specifically:

Select to view spoiler:

The document tells us that Inara is not on the ship at the beginning of the movie; that she no longer lives aboard Serenity and that Mal is carrying a torch for her.

Maybe everybody else already knew it, but it was certainly news to me; particularly since it likewise means that an event in the movie brings them back together, since Morena clearly has a starring role in the flicker and scenes with Nathan. Reaver attack?

Then, you wrote:

Interesting -- isn't it? -- that Ms. Aghdashloo isn't listed among the cast members (which is more extensive than when I last looked by a factor of three), and that she and Morena are both stunt doubled by Karin Silvestri, a woman in her mid-to-late 20's (member of 1997 UCLA gymnastics team). Wonder what to make of that? Certainly adds weight to the notion that Inara's syringe contains a youth-rejuvenating agent. Hypothetically, Morena and Shohreh might be playing the same role...

Curiouser and curiouser.

Ack! My sincere apologies for that. I had forgotten that it was not very common knowledge - I had heard a lot of theories about it (without specific backing) when the casting sheet came out and it had moved from rumour to known fact in my head somehow. I hope it wasn't too disappointing for you to find that out.

There's a child actor on the film, his name is Logan O'Brien and he plays Borodin. He's a very intelligent kid, and though I have no idea what role he plays in Serenity, he's a huge fan of the series (his family too) and he's posted a picture of himself and the cast during the wrap party on his official site.

You said you got the link to the document from 'the official site', so I guess the info was out there. No foul.

Besides, I like to speculate on where JW was taking us aboard Serenity. I enjoy the prospect of seeing how close I got to guessing details correctly, more than being surprised. It's in my nature to try to figure things out. What good's a mystery without any clues? Or from a slightly different angle: Without clues it could hardly be considered a mystery, could it?

And mystery is definitely a major part of Firefly's allure...

I do believe that Joss himself has already stated that. I think that takes it out of the "spoiler" category.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Here is the only pic I found on his website, in the msgboard under the thread "Firefly-the 3rd time around":

Here is the link to the thread:

It is shiny that he is talking up the series. Don't know how many fans he has, but I hope they all check out the DVDs and the BDM.
