Just thought I'd pass this along to your good selves.

Hey Firefly fans,

We're moving ahead on our Serenity Browncoat. The sample coat (used to test the garment pattern) is in full swing of being made. As soon as they'll let me I'm going to snap off a couple of pics of it to show everyone. Of course, it won't be made of the brown suede that the actual finished Browncoat will be made from. After all, using leather hides just to test a pattern isn't exactly cost-effective, but still it will give everyone a chance to see and provide feedback on what our design is shaping up to look like.

In the meantime, I've got a request to put out to everyone. We're trying to get the buckles just right on this design. We haven't had any success with finding a commercial supplier of a buckle that looks similar, so we're looking into getting them custom made for us so that they'll be perfectly screen-accurate. However, the best photos we've been able to find of them look like this:

We're wondering does anyone out there has access to better images that they'd be willing to send our way? We'd be very grateful, and you'll be helping us greatly to make your Serenity Browncoat just that extra bit more accurate! :-)

Just my observation.
The outside of the clasp may be a kind of cast pewter with a steel clip attached.
It reminds me of a flat spring loaded lanyard clip thats been soldered to the back of the bar portion of the clasp. Could work perfectly if you find nothing else.

My guess would be a case closure, like the type used on soft briefcases, the satchels that lawyers, for instance, sometimes carry when thier paper load wouldn't fit into a hard-sided briefcase.
