Sean Maher (dr simon tam - firefly) - New Show ’Halley’s Comet’
From Thefutoncritic.com - 2005-03-2nd

HALLEY’S COMET (The WB) - Relative newcomer Audrey Marie Anderson ("Drop Dead Sexy") has scored the title role of Halley Newell in the David E. Kelley-produced drama pilot, about a 23-year-old med school student just discovering adulthood after surviving a devastating childhood disease. Also cast in the San Francisco-based pilot are Adam Campbell ("Commando Nanny"), Adam LaVorgna ("7th Heaven"), Marika Dominczyk ("North Shore") and Sean Maher ("Firefly"). Campbell will play Halley’s next-door neighbor Mike while LaVorgna is set as his best friend Tim Gable, who starts a romance with Halley. Dominczyk then will play Halley’s sexy stockbroker friend Mathea with Maher as the chief resident at the hospital where Halley now attends med school who also happens to be one of the doctors who helped treat her, not to mention has a secret crush on her. Jonathan Pontell is directing the 20th Century Fox Television/David E. Kelley Productions-based project from a script by creator Andrew Kreisberg.

Looks like most of our BDH's are getting chances. I will check it out.

I'm thrilled to hear Sean's in a new pilot. It kinda worries me that he's playing a Doctor with a secret crush though...

Wow. . .Sean Maher plays a doctor with an awkward attraction that he can't quite express??

What a stretch!

What bold new territory!

*sigh*

Also look for a new show this fall that features Gina Torres as a dead sexy assasin/soldier-type person. . .

And the made-for-tv-movie that stars Adam Baldwin as a military-background, tough-as-nails, hard-to-love kind of guy. . .

And Alan Tudyk stars in a new series where he's a quirky smart-ass.

Seriously. . .I LOVE to see our BDH's getting work, rather than fading into obscurity. . .but for goodness sake. Can we NOT typecast them?

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'll give it a chance to support Sean, as I will all our BDHs. Not really into the whole doctor/hospital drama show thing as it has been done nearly to death on networks in the past 5-10 years, but for Sean I can suffer through it to see how it plays out.

Well, I'm kinda with Static on this one: It sounds like Sean's having a little trouble with typecasting (Gina's gonna be playing a soccer mom detective, BTW, so you may've stretched the truth to fit your premise a little, Static). But, should the show make it past pilot, and onto the schedule, I'll definitely check it out with an open mind, like Browncoat1.

At least it's gonna be on the WB, and not F*x, even tho' it's produced by 20th Century Fox. I know F*x would've screwed it over and then canceled it, like they did Firefly and Wonderfalls (Jewel Staite and Tim Minear). I'm telling you, Gail Berman's got it out for Joss and all who associate with him. Maybe the show's got a chance; although as Bc1 pointed out, how's it gonna deal with the competition from all the other hospital/doctor dramas?...

Respectfully,

zoid

Considering three of the 5 leads don't have medical careers, and the title character is just a med student who (hopefully) won't be dealing with real medical situations any time soon, this doesn't at all sound like a hospital drama. I think there will be some medical subplots, but that'll probably be the extent of it.

I've never even seen the show, so this may be a bad example, but even though the father in Everwood is a doctor, and there are plot lines dealing with medical situations he encounters, I don't think anyone would classify it as a medical show. At least that's the way it seems from the commercials I've seen.

Given that the characters all have different careers, Halley's Comet sounds like it will focus on the personal relationships and character development, whereas hospital dramas generally focus more on the medical situations.

I mock you with my monkey pants

Can't wait. As for being typecast and think it is more a coincidence than the people thinking "Ah, he played a doctor on a sci fi show, lets have him be a doctor here on Earth". Sean is an intelligent actor and it comes across. He fits an academic well, whether it be a doctor or someone else with higher learning. As for a secret crush, it had to be a secret, because she was his patient at one time. Now she isn't, and he doesn't have to keep the secret. Who knows, he might get to kiss the girl before the show is cancelled.

I hope this show takes off. I must admit I wasn't much of a Simon fan in the beginning of the Firefly series. But the more I watch it, the more endearing he becomes to me. How interesting, though, that he plays such a similar role!

This is great news. Simon has always been my favorite on Firefly. Does anyone know when it is suppose to premiere?

They are making a pilot. There are no guarantees that it will ever be on TV. Networks order pilots and then in May they announce which ones they will "probably" air.
