ROBINHOOD

I hope this is a bad April fools joke!!! Ecclestone has quit Dr Who, feebly saying " I don't want to be type cast, and the work was very gruelling".
If this is true then I am VERY dissapointed in the man.
Apparently the BBC are now in talks with Casanova star David Tennant on replacing him.
I thought Ecclestone was more of a man than to quit because of some 2 bit TV columnists sh*tty remarks about the show, and his version of The Doctor. How are they going to re write this then?

Yep..........................that went well!

Okay, this makes no sense to me - you're assuming Eccleston "quit" (given that it appears he wasn't under contract its difficult to quit) because of reviews, which have largely been popular.

Now, I have to say I can't see he would have been typecast, because this role is really the polar opposite that you expect from him, but its his choice - damn brave as well to walk away from a guaranteed job that was raising his profile. I suspect part of it may have been to do with the increased public profile, and its his choice at the end of the day.

I was very tempted to start a Doctor Who thread but thought that might be innappropriate on a Firefly Board, and unfair because so many people can't watch it!

To be honest I hated Christopher Eccleston in the first episode, his acting seemed incredibly wooden - though he did grow on me over the episode. His delivery of "run for your life!" made me wanna bang my head against a wall.

However this episode (Number 2 - this evening) he seemed to have slotted into the role incredibly well. He brought a good level of depth to the character, and a good level of whimsical eccentricity and humour. However, I haven't seen a full episode of the old Doctor Who, so I'm just taking it as if it were a new character.

I was a bit disappointed that he quit so soon, but I thought the Doctor Who actors changed frequently anyway? Or was it every few seasons rather than every season? Overall, this series has made me realise how much I do love sci-fi, even if a little cheesey at times. I thought I only liked Joss's spin on sci-fi, but Dr. Who is rather entertaining!

Okay, so no one else has mentioned it, but I heard the producers of the show were talking to Eddie Izzard to replace Eccleston.

Tell me that wouldn't rock...

P.S.
The Doc has got to have a sense of humor and a flair for the ridiculous. Eddie's got that in spades. He'd make a dashing, action transvestite-turned-Timelord. Cake or death? Anyone?

And he could also play The Master, as James Mason (who would also be the voice of God). Plus we'd get the French episode...

I think its going to David Tenant though, who just happens to have finished playing Casanova in Russell T Davies' adaption...
