Howdy all.

Wanted to float an idea past you all to determine if there is enough interest in a plan I have to help promote 'Serenity' before I commit to all the work needed to see it through.

History:
Last year, on behalf of the Chicagoland Browncoats, I put together 4 Firefly theme packages and donated them to a local PBS station's annual fundraiser auction. In exchange for a donation of sufficient value, they give it a few seconds of on air promotion time along with naming the entity/individual/organization on air that graciously donated the item. Here is a picture of a couple of the items I donated last year:

All 4 items brought in a total of $235 for the PBS stations that serve SE Wisconsin.

Today:
The time for their annual auction fundraiser is fast approaching. It begins April 29th and runs through the first week of May. I'd like to do something similar for this year's auction to help promote Firefly and Serenity. Only one small problem, I owe the government money this year and expect that my discretionary income for all of April will be wiped out on that one expense.

Here's where you come in:
If I were to setup a link where you could donate money, would anyone be interested in donating a few dollars to help promote Firefly/Serenity in SE Wisconsin?

My tentative plan:
Should there be enough interest in this effort, here's how I'd proceed.
1. Setup PayPal link to accept donations for the next couple of weeks.
2. Use money raised to purchase as many Firefly DVD sets from Amazon.com as is affordable. (Would like to purchase at least 3 sets for donation.)
3. Since the minimum value of items to get on air promotion is $85, I'd dip into my private collection of autographs to pad the values of the donations. Each donated package would consist of: 1 Firefly DVD set (MSRP: $50), 1 Inkwork's Knowle Rohrer Card signed by Adam Baldwin (SMV: $25-$35), and 1 Rittenhouse Archive Cleopatra Card signed by Gina Torres (SMV: $10-$15). The limiting factor is the Knowle Rohrer (A.B.) cards as I only have five of them.
4. Donate the items to the PBS auction under the name of "Friends of serenitymovie.com". That's my clever way of getting the station to plug the movie URL on air.
5. Donate any money left over directly to the PBS station.
6. Tape the auction to see how much each item was auctioned off for. Provide pictures on-line with a summary of donations and what the money was used for just in case anyone wants to double-check my accounting practices.

Feedback anyone?

Not a lot of feedback happening here. However, the response at the OB and the Serenity site has encouraged me to go forward with this plan.

If you'd like to donate a few dollars to help purchase Firefly DVD sets to be donated to an on-air auction fundraiser for a SE Wisconsin Public Television station, click on the following link:
https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=daveboyd%40worldnet%2eatt%2enet
&item_name=Help%20purchase%20Firefly%20DVD%20sets%20to%20be%20donated%20to%20SE%20WI%20PBS%20on%20air%20auction&no_shipping=1&cn=Comments&tax=0¤cy_code=USD

The auction starts April 29th, 2005. To make sure I have enough time to order the sets and get them at the best price, I will be removing the above donation link on April 21st.

Thanks,
-Dave (suinegagpf)
