I just get all types of annoyed when tiny minds like that come in here insultin' folks. I know we're not suppose to feed the trolls, and have probably, like Bunts the dog, lost my good conduct medal, albeit for a completely different reason.

I also learned that from the Da Vinci Code - the book. It technically means "spouse" if I remember correctly. That struck me the first time I watched Firefly and heard "The term is Companion." I wondered if there was any hidden meaning there. Knowing Joss, I bet there was.

I thought we did have one moderator at least. I know someone had been moving threads to Troll Country and all. I can't remember who the 'coat was that was made moderator.

This troll sounds like a real loser, and one who definitely deserves having their IP blocked.

IP blocking may not work. Sadly enough.

The problem with blocking an IP is that unless the person leaves their computer on and connected to the internet 100% of the time, they won't always necessarily connect with the same IP. The ISPs have a block of IP addresses. Then, every time a customer wants to connect, they let that customer use whatever IP address is next in their rotation. It costs the ISPs less to lease blocks of IPs and assign them dynamically than it does to allow customers to have dedicated IPs. I believe that ARIN also tries to discourage the dedicated-IP model, since there's only so many IP addresses under the current protocol (four blocks of three digits). Trying to change that protocol would cause more noise than telephone area codes splitting, or customers suddenly being forced to dial ten digits even in their own area code.

I haven't heard about anyone else, just Haken, which is why requests for special avitars, etc. can take a bit of time. Since he's the one who created the entire site, if there's a way just to excise the trollish one from the threads, he'd be the one to do it.

Unfortunately, we need to keep in mind that it may constitute too much time-consuming work, and as you've pointed out, this site requires a lot of work to keep things going for us. This time issue may be why the current policy is moving the whole thread to Troll Country, which is a bit better than the entire thread heading off to the 'Special Hell.'
