Quote:The real story for Prisoners is how it holds up in the long-run. It has good word-of-mouth, though it also faces tough competition in early October. Based on other similar movies at this time, it's likely that Prisoners winds up with between $70 and $80 million, though it's possible that it goes a bit higher.

So, how did it do at the box office, let's see:Quote:The real story for Prisoners is how it holds up in the long-run. By comparison, IT made nearly $80M in one weekend. Prisoners made $20.8M in it's first weekend and it lasted another 10 weeks (until Dec. 3, 2013); so that means it made an average of $4M a week the rest of the way. Again, not exactly burning theaters down now, is it? Redbox it is then. SGG

Overseas it didn't do as well; only $13,355,000. Of course, Universal didn't do much to promote this film. As I remember, none of the film's starts ever appeared on late night shows. But the film's stars are well known enough to have appeared on other hit shows: The Last Ship, Suits, Chuck, Gotham, oh and Castle (since Firefly ended it's run). We even have a blockbuster hit in which Morena appears - Deadpool. Prisoners Prisoners opened at Number 1 at the Box office with $20.8M, and dropped to $10.8 in it's second weekend; it fell to #2. By the 3rd week it fell to #4 and made just $5.7M (another 47% drop). In it's 4th and 5th weekends it dropped to 6th place; making $3.6M and $2.06M, respectively. What was Prisoners competition: Rush (Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde) and Battle of the Year (Josh Holloway, Chris Brown) Not exactly blazing competition. Did you think it was a popular word-of-mouth movie? SGG

Rush - that was an enjoyable film, many memorable scenes in this Ron Howard pic, but I do forget the name of it easily. Maria Bello? Until just now I didn't know she was best friends with Carrie-Anne Moss. I thought she did well in Payback, History of Violence, and Thank You For Smoking. Been keeping an eye out since she was on the Due South episode One Good Man - the episode following Carrie-Anne's episode, Feb 1996.
