barkeep, there are hornets/wasps/nasty bees swarming around the inside of the back door (outer screen door), and the only way i'm keeping them at bay is by keeping the inner door closed. any methods for ridding myself of the pesky beasts without getting stung?

Make sure the outer door is open so they're not trapped. Get a bug veil, heavy gloves you can tuck your sleeves into, long sleeved shirt, long pants tucked into socks, and sturdy footgear. Go outside by another entry and slowly WITHOUT SWATTING AT THEM look to see if there's a nest being built. If there is you might want to call in someone with experience to take it out. If not, hit 'em with some of the jet propelled Black Flag type crap.

Since the problem is in and around your residence I cannot stress strongly enough that if someone comes to help you and has gasoline or other flammable materials SEND THEIR DRUNK ASS AWAY. The fire department will thank you.

If it's just honeybees they'll clump up into a swarm ball and you can have a local beekeeper come collect them. (Free bees!) If it's yellowjackets, wasps, hornets, etc, you're in for a world of pain if you don't get rid of them.

thanks. lolz, we'd never go the flamethrower way XD though it is tempting (and i have two uncles who are firefighters, also kinda pyros). there's definitely a nest cuz theres an amazing amount of these buggers, and every year they return to the same exact spot in our roof ><;; and come from the same spot whenever we see them starting to buzz around. but dad keeps saying 'you cant reach em, you cant reach em, theyre *IN* the roof, the bug spray (Raid-ish type stuff? iunno, stuff that kills bees) won't reach th at far. cant reach em' and every time mom says 'well then we need an exterminator to get rid of em' its always 'aw no nah no *grumblegrumble*' im tempted to call em myself :P

barkeep, awesome party tonight, then a sobriety checkpoint on the way home (its spring weekend, we were near campus, and no i wasnt drinking because 1) im underage, and 2) i had to serve as DD for my inebriated boyfriend, who felt like celebrating the nice job he just got ^_^). a round for everyone in the house to celebrate the bf's newfound employedness (theyre also paying for his master's degree, yay!!), i is so proud of him ^_^ *happy dance*
