Howdy.

As I posted in another thread, I am a new Browncoat. Just for a bit of background...I am one of the people that everyone keeps talking about. Someone that had never watched the TV series until about a week ago when my housemate let me borrow it. I watched it straight thru and just finished watching Serenity (for the second time). I LOVE this show! I can't get enough and now...nothing. I had always wanted to watch back in the day when it was on, but never got the chance. Now I wish I had...perhaps I could have made a difference back then.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. I am fan of many Sci-fi series and am very happy to count Firefly in my top 3.

Be well and keep on fighting! We will see this ship and crew again.

Welcome, welcome! Always great to have a new Browncoat on board! Have you checked out the Serenity comic books and the River Tam Sessions yet? If not, they’re another bit of the ‘verse you can enjoy.

Please do stick around because, like you said, we’ll see more of this ship and crew someday.

Ok now i am curious what the other 2 are..lol..Always good to see new Browncoats. I have to admit that I missed the show completely when it was aired. I even thought it was a brand new series when they started showing it on sc-fi when they were gearing up for the new movie...how embarrasing is that.( and I call myself a geek)

Welcome to the verse, Defiant1701!!!
We have a bunch of shiny people around here. So hope you enjoy the posts and banter around here. Chindi reminded me kind funny how I always wind up in a Alliance bar on U-day celebrations. Just one of those lucky coincidences. Anyways enjoy the place and hang in there.
mata, Ookami yori

Let me guess Sarge, the situation calls for another pistol blazen charge from us huh.

No, I hadn't. Infact, I had no idea there was any other material out there? I will look into it. Thanks and thanks for the welcome!

Here’s a little more info on the additional material that’s out there:

The River Tam Sessions are a series of short video clips Joss & Summer Glau put together to serve as viral marketing for the film. The clips purport to be security footage taken during “sessions” with River inside the Academy. You can find them at www.session416.com. Be sure to watch “Session 416, Second Excerpt” first and the rest in chronological order, as Joss intended. They’re great stuff!

The individual Serenity comic books may be hard/impossible to find at this point; however, they have all been gathered into a single graphic novel-style collection. The comics are co-written by Joss and former “Firefly” writer Brett Matthews (“Heart of Gold”). They were a three issue miniseries released over the summer leading up to the film, and serve as something of a bridge between the series and the Big Damn Movie. I’ve certainly enjoyed them, they read like a lost episode of “Firefly” (and speaking of lost episodes, you can find an unfilmed script from “Firefly” called “Dead or Alive,” here on FFF.net: http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45). The collection is due out January 25, I believe, published by Dark Horse. It has a really spiffy cover, and should hopefully include the alternate comic book covers featuring all 9 of our Big Damn Heroes.

I also recommend “Serenity: The Official Visual Companion” if you’re interested in more of the ‘verse’s background information or on deleted scenes that didn’t make it onto the DVD. The Visual Companion contains an extensive interview with Joss, “A Brief History of the Universe, circa 2507 A.D.” by Joss, and the shooting script.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head (no, wait, there’s also the Serenity RPG, which I’m told has a map of the ‘verse and more background on places and people). However, there will be more stuff in the future. In a post over on Whedonesque, Joss has confirmed that he’ll be doing another comic book miniseries set during the show. And Keith R. A. DeCandido, author of the Serenity novelization (who posts here as KRAD) has said that there will be two Serenity novels (new material) coming out in 2006.

Hope that was useful for you.
