It really does depend on the individual.
I snared Mom with "Our Mrs. Reynolds".
Snared the sister with "Jaynestown".
Big sis is a nurse. So is Mom. Mom snared her with "Ariel" - "his pupils were fixed and dilapidated"
Both brothers needed fighting and background - the pilot.
The sweet coworker who was orphaned as a child and adopted - "Safe"
The fabu wild coworker - "Our Mrs. Reynolds"

To me, "Shindig" is a throwaway episode. I liked Kaylee at the party, and the moment with River and Badger is PRICELESS, but only if you know beforehand how really broken River is.

"The Message" works best if you already KNOW everybody, becuase their being put in situations that show NEW sides of them. It doesn't have the impact if you don't already know them.

DARTHVEGAS

Ariel
War Stories

both set the 'fun' tone of show, with lots of action, bound to get 'em hooked

'Might have been on the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Given your audience, Train Job is the only viable option. It has little offensive material (sex, cussing) has great dialogue, action, and introduction. Just a great all around introduction episode for all audiences. Even Serenity isn't quite suitable for kids.

How's my firefly speak? Good? Bad? Fee-oo?

...It's fee-oo isn't it?

Maybe its me but I cant even imagine NOT watching them in order (the first time anyway) so I sez Serenity part 1 and 2. Got me hooked

Wasnt that the problem with Fox in the first place...that they didnt even show the eps in order? Joss seemed to think pilot should have been shown first.

Personally...I am nervous about being in the room with someone I am trying to convert to the show...cause if they dont like it ( and someone better help them if they make fun!) I will have to kill them. And if they "just dont get it" I will wonder why I am even friends with them cause we obviously have nothing in common!!

It's good to know, that there are browncoats like that. So I can hook her onto it.

No need to explain. If you did have something against a conservative, they probably had it coming.

Yes, this show seems to attract all sorts. And while I don't think it's perfect by any means, I'm hopelessly addicted and consider myself a Browncoat through and through.

You can tell your "prudish" friend to read my previous post if she wants to know what another prude thinks of the show.

Just watched Train Job between my classes...That would seem the best way to go. Outside of the whole Simon/River stuffs back story, You get a bit of everything and where everyones commin' from.

I took a poll amongst my fellow Browncoats in my family and in the office and we all came up with "The Train Job" as the best with your time constraints and mix of ages and such.

Not my favorite episode... although I love it like all the rest but for your needs it's shiny!

"Mal. Bad. In the Latin." River

BTW, I sure hope you let us know what you eventualy did (which episode, etc.), and what the overall reaction was.

Wouldn't be taken kindly for a fellow Browncoat to leave us all in suspense.

I suggest either "Out of Gas" or "War Stories".

Go with "Serenity" part 1 and 2 if you have time. It's the very beginning.

If not, go with the "Train Job". It also introduces the characters nicely and explains things well without giving away any important plot points to the story.

Either choice is good.

Jayne: Are you saying River's a witch?
Wash: Yes, Jayne, she's a witch. She's had congress with the Beast.
Jayne: She's in Congress?
Wash: How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious!
