Wow! What a fantastic showing at the Screenland theater in Kansas City, Missouri last night!

I left my son's baseball game early (which I'm coach of) and headed downtown to the theater. We got there about 1/2 hour early (earlier than expected), and wondered what we were going to do for the next 30 minutes. We decided to go on into the show, and I'm glad we did.

The place was almost already packed! We barely found two good seats together! At the door, they were taking donations for Equality Now, and we donated, and were given a raffle ticket to win "shiny prizes" we were told.

Inside the theater, there were Browncoats a plenty! I saw at least one Jayne hat, and I saw several home made browncoats, as well numorous Serenity logo (I had one on) and BROWNCOAT Hot Topic T-shirts. I stopped and talked to the guy with the Jayne hat on, and he said his fiance's mother or someone makes them and sells them on ebay, and they go fast.

The manager of the theater came in and said he was thrilled because the show was sold out, and his boss wasn't going to believe him when he called him to tell him because his boss didn't think booking Serenity would do any sales. Boy, was he wrong! He also said this might give him some ammo to try having some all day Firefly marathons at the theater, and everyone cheered! He then raffled off 3 Serenity/Equality Now T-shirts, and gave away a copy of the Firefly and Serenity Visual Companion (winner to call publisher to receive). Luckily, I won a T-shirt (although it's a medium).

Once the movie started, it was like watching it with a group of old friends. We laughed together, we cheered together, and had a great time. When I saw Serenity origianally, there were maybe five people in the theater, and it just wasn't the same. This was incredible! I LOVED watching it with follow fans and Browncoats!

If anyone reading this is attending the Saturday night showing, please post and let me know if your experience is anything as good as mine, and I'd love to know if it's sold out again!

Keep the faith, and we will get more Serenity!

Oh, Jayhawk, I knew I was missing a great time!
But oh so shiny that it was so wonderful for you!
A theater full of Browncoats cheering.. oh, we have to have more of these things....

Thank you for telling us about it.. I so wanted to hear.

Have you heard how much the theater took in for Equality Now? I donated online but couldn't see a place to put in the code for the theater in KC.
I'm going back to www.cantstoptheserenity.com today to see if I can still donate and do it with that theaters code too. Hope it's listed now.

Showings of Firefly!? Oh, wow, my family better get used to seeing more of me in KC! I have JUST got to come up for one of those.

Thanks again, Jayhawk...you made my day!!

Followmal,

I wish you could have been there! It was a great time, and I think my wife even enjoyed it this time. The first time she saw it with me at the theater, she hadn't seen much of the BDS, so I don't think she understood the characters as well. She was also about a week away from having our 2nd child, so she had "pregnant brain" as she calls it, and wasn't in the right state of mind. She has since watched the BDS with me, and while she still thinks I'm crazy because of my infactuation with the 'verse, she seems to like the show.

Maybe you'll be able to make it to some of the marathons if they have them, or maybe even another showing of Serenity!
