(Sorry, took a while to be able to post a response) *pouts*

Nope, not spicy (nor is it a sweet dessert.) It's a individual type of dish. It's a egg-custard with ginko nut, a slice or two of shiitake, bamboo shoot near the bottom of the custard. The egg-custard is a mix of egg, and a seaweed-fish broth (dashi), the whole mix is usually placed in a tall, asian tea cup that is covered and steamed. So the only hot is from geting it still warm from the steamer.

It's something I like to order when I can. (Yum! *drool*) Dunno if Ookamikawahara (or any of the other browncoats who might have tried it) like it.

P.S. SpaceAnjl: Nothing wrong with it. It's just too sweet for me as a nigiri sushi when it's on top of sushi rice. I don't mind it with regular rice though.

...and PR: So I take it egg-y custards are not your thing then? *ducks bottle of soy sauce (shoyu to the rest of us) flying at my head*

WOLFPOET

I first tried Sushi in CA... best place to have it except Japan-. Even though I'm a vegequarian, I always prefer some avocado-cucumber rolls to anything else. Although salmon-avocado are shiny too.

(Warning for the silly-impared...this is a silly post...I repeat: this is a silly post...ignore at your own risk.)

*mock snarls at Wolfpoet* Oooh...dem's fighting words Wolfie...

*pauses* *ponders* *rethinks*

Nah...I'll just let you live in your delusion-filled world.

*pulls on a handy-dandy cord* *Natto nigiri sushi falls on top of Wolfpoet's head* (and believe me when I say "ewwww...") *attempts to overcome gag reflex* *barely makes it*

Japan -- the home of sushi. Hawai`i (with the varieties of sushi from "local" to "made by Japanese nationals in Hawai`i" to "Japan chains in Hawai`i" to Korean-style sushi) rocks better than those delusional locations attached to the ninth island of Las Vegas.

Hey DancingNeko,
Like the post, ewww now thats very scary --- natto nigiri sushi
As to the other one, nope haven't tried it yet. Probably the best dessert I had in Japan, was Cream Puffs in Okinawa, those rocked and first time I tried them. Pocky also are really good. Some of the coffee flavored pudding are pretty good to. A bunch of the stuff at the Conbini (Convinece Store (Sp?)is really good to. On a side note, actually found Chanpon here state side at a Asian import market. Cho natsukashii desu ne. Chanpon is a local delicacy from Nagasaki a type of soup broth filled w/ Vegies, Sea food, and a little bit of meat. Really good, was made by Chinese traders living in Nagasaki area. Well enjoy folks and will hallor at ya later.

Fatty Tuna without a doubt. Also, if you can find it, a Kobe beef roll is unbelievable.

Ookamikawahara: Ever tried Beard Papa's cream puffs? Yum.

Pocky? As in the cookie/cracker with the dip (chocolate or strawberry)? Mmm...Yum.

Chanpon? Looked it up, and it does look like a Chinese-style dish with shiru. Looks like a good mix of both styles. Yum.

matta ato de,

Yup, thats the chain I tried it at in Okinawa, Beard papa's cream puffs. Best I've had yet. Really nice and big. Yup those pocky !!!! Yeah Chanpon is really good, there is a famous chain called Ringer Hut, which specializes in Chanpon. So was shocked and delighted when I found it in the Asian market over here. My Kendo Sensei was telling me some Korean restaraunts also carry it only its called Ju(n)pon I think? Yeah Nagasaki was the one port open to everyone, so had a small Chinese trading city in there. Which is how the dish came about.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I don't know if egg-y custard would be my thing, never had it. Doesn't sound bad, though. I'm not a huge fan of too much egg, but I might try it if I get a chance.
*looks around* Who threw the soy sauce?

PR: Meant egg-y custard (like flans where there's like 3 eggs and 2 yolks) or a custard with 4 egg yolks in it. (Egg-y enough?)

mmm - never had Kobe beef sushi, but I bet I'd like it!

Egg sushi? No! All wrong, I can't take it! But that's ok, I'll just swap my eggs for anyone else's raw fish...

I tried natto for the first time last week. Liked it from the start. What's the problem with it?

Cruithne3753: I've tried it twice...the first time wasn't bad (sister ordered it from a very Japanese-y restraunt -- the kind Nihonjin go to). The second time...the natural gag reflex wouldn't let me even swallow it. I gotta give credit to those who can and do eat it. It's just something that I haven't accquired the taste for. (Maybe if I can get someone who knows how to prepare it properly...)

Stillflyin: *grabs a wooden spear* *holds spear at one end and pokes the natto with the other end* You never can be too sure with that (especially since the fermentation is from bacteria that creates really web-like stuff on the beans).
