RECHEANDIA

One of my favorite things about DVDs is the ability to see more detail and stop stuff/rewind to take a REALLY close look.

How about a thread where we share our favorite new findings on the DVDs?

Here's mine to kick it off:

In Trash, go to 21:40 (21 minutes, 40 seconds).

Kaylee and Jayne are working on rigging the garbage scow. As the camera pans up from Serenity you can see the computer screen that controls the garbage bin. Pause the action and check out the screen. Is it just me or is that obviously a Microsoft Windows screenshot (looks like add new hardware wizard).

This is just TOO funny on so many levels. They're adding a new card to the garbage bin so its the add hardware wizard.

Then of course there's the line of thinking that says Windows is only suitable for a garbage scow. [big damn grin]

Or is the line of thinking that even 500 years from now Windows will still be the dominant operating system?

Having seen all my episodes in RM it was nice to see voice & mouth syncronization. Plus my wife & I are commentary junkies. Love Jewel's little insight into how Joss wanted Kaylee to be more real. Maybe that why she seems so much hotter than Inara, Kaylee is so much more real. Plus all the stuff on the ship & the chinese. The dvd's rock. Would have loved more commentary with more cast but hey, what we have is awesome.

Oh yeah and Wash & his 3 "do something" switches.

You think I look good now, wait till you see me in my new "Browncoat T-shirt"

i DO aim to misbehave

My most favorite is spoilerized for them as haven't found the easter egg yet.

Select to view spoiler:

The fact that Adam Baldwin went to such lengths to show that he is every bit the Firefly fan he's always said he is. What man could sit in a brown suede jacket, Firefly T-shirt, and that... beautifully knitted hat and sing every single verse of The Hero of Canton? And when he blew us a kiss, I got all weepy!

The video quality is AWESOME!! Mal's eyes are blue-gray in every single frame now, not just when the light hits them right.

On the commentary from War Stories, in the first few minutes or so, Nathan and Alan talk about Sean and Summer, and how we (the viewers) should look for certain things between them on the commentary from Safe.
Yet, we got no such commentary. I have to wonder if commentaries were made for all of the episodes and they just didn't get included for some reason or another, or if they were supposed to make them and didn't, or if Nathan and Alan are once again just yankin' my chain. They know me so well...

Inara: Who's winning?
Simon: I can't really tell, they don't seem to be playing by any civilized rules that I know.

Well, on the commentary for Serenity Joss and Nathan talk about Blue Sun and how they're supposed to be the Coca Cola or Microsoft of the future. Maybe they mean that literally and at some point Blue Sun took over Microsoft!

The Windows screen was my FAVORITE discovery on the DVD's, but since that one's taken...

In Our Mrs. Reynolds, when the window blows out on the net station, I never noticed the two pieces of human-shaped debris before. On the DVD, I can see them clearly flailing about. It's amazing what nothing can do to a man. :)

In the same scene, I can't quite figure out how Jayne has his hand on Vera's trigger, when Vera is inside a sealed space suit. But that's another matter.

That's from Serenity. Just after they evade the Reaver ship.

I also only noticed it with the commentary. I got a good laugh at it.

Zooming in on the holoimager logo and seeing the "Blue Sun" icon beneath it in Ariel. We now know that they also make medical machinery, eh?

Fox did this with the Family Guy DVD's as well. They actually did commentaries for EVERY episode of Family Guy, but only a few made it on the DVD's. They may have done commentaries for all the episodes here, as well. Here's hoping someday we'll get to hear them. Well, while we're hoping, we need Joss to finish Firefly in some sort of manner. Books, movie, someone picking up the series again after seeing the DVD sales... anything.
