Emmy the Great. Like a mix between Malvina Reynolds, and Bob Dillon.

Anyone have a song you just love? Please post what it is, and possibly the song itself.

Thanks.

Laura Nyro, live on the Kraft Music Hall, singing Save the Country. Listen to the passion and the vocal dynamics. She's been gone away a long time, passed away far too young.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Have you heard Emmy's "The History of Britain"?

I love her work with The BPA on "Seattle":

How's about some Oren Lavie? Amazingly reminiscent of Nick Drake:

Scala & Kolacny Brothers bring a new twist on an old fave:

For something a little more rockin', try out Dave Grohl & Josh Homme's lovechild, Them Crooked Vultures:

Change gears for a more alt-country feel with The Dutchess & The Duke's "Living This Life":

I think the Crooked Vultures are channeling Cream - first thing I thought of was Strange Brew.

Speaking of England, I do like these guys:

Soundtrack fav: That New Car Smell. Sometimes I'll like a song for one signature or even one instrument, like in this piece, whatever that string instrument is at the beginning - wow.

Can't believe there is a 78 rpm record in this video. I have not seen one in decades.

I absolutely loathed and detested "Lovefool" by The Cardigans, because it was such an earworm of a song, and it would literally get stuck in my head for days on end.

Little did I realize how much I would grow to love Nina Persson as a singer, though.

Glad you liked The Decemberists. They can be kind of addictive.

I'm sure she will/is, it seems like that kind of mindless crap that teens would buy. At least it's educational as they'll get to learn the order of days in a week.

Here in the UK there is a show called Russell Howards Good News and this has been featured on it but it's the first time I've heard the whole song.
Wow. Those 'lryics' are incredibly inane and that fake 'perma-grin' is just creepy. I'll ignore her grating voice as it's obviously been put through a machine.

It's things like this that put me off listening to any modern music. Most of the bigger artists I liked have faded away or sold out to the younger generation. These days it all seems to be R'N'B based where they deliberately mispell their names and every song seems to be featuring someone else.
I guess I've reached that age where I don't understand youth music.
