Anybody know any cool science-y tricks for third graders? (the super-soaker flame thrower is out )

And, yes I know who Steve Spangler is...

I can't seem to remember ANYTHING from all those eppisodes of MacGyver, either...

Talking to myself.
Not really sure I'm not... most of the time.
Still wondering if I make you people up.
And everything else for that matter.
A construct in my own head.

Lol. I have to agree. Kids are the best workout plan ever. Esp. in the running around ages. I recent spent a week with four kids 5-13, the running around never stopped. I think they might bracket the ages, though. At 14+ the kids start to have sports without you, and 4 on down there's less running. Still...

But I think Byte meant you lose the workout. Sure, you lose the 1/2 hour workout for the 12 hour workout.

Hehe....

You want my advice on rasing 3rd graders?

Don't have kids :)

BTW... I love my General Discussion Peeps. If you feel a strong need to judge me on RWED discussions I've had in the General Discussion, I welcome it, but I also say that they are two different worlds......

And while my core never wavers and though I may say things you don't like in the RWED, I'd never say them in General Discussions and I hope you would do the same.

Hi Wish, well I don't know of any third grade science projects, but my little brother, in fourth grade came home from his after school science class with a container of yeast with a baloon attached to the top and it filled up as the hour went on, it was pretty cool, maybe something like that?

As far as what I'm doing, I was at our local scifi and fantasy convention all weekend, got to sleep at home since it was in my city, but spent the days there, had fun. Today was my birthday, I'm 26, as compensation I got some nifty new trad CDs, one of which is completely in Scottish Gaelic, no Bearla in sight, huzzah! And it contains the song I've chosen to be my wedding dance someday, if that day ever comes. If it doesn't then I can still have it as my future wedding song.

I love kids though, and I need the exercise. As long as you don't make yourself the focus of the activity then you can take rests occasionally.

Six String,

I agree, two dif. worlds. RWED is too much for me now. The negativity, it invades your consciousness, and spills out into your real world social life.

Go raibh Mile maith agat a stor.

I hope she is having a great birthday today, is she having a party with her friends? So hopefully that experiment will do nicely for her, my little brother loved it when he did it last week, but don't take off the baloon until you're ready to face the smell, yucky/samhnasach.

We had a party today, with about a dozen science-y tricks. I could see how much $$$ it would be to hire somebody to do them, ALOT of time and effort went into this. Don't think I'll be doing another, though... Ended it with an EPIC silly string battle. I don't think I've seen a group of kids have more fun in a long time. Now I'm forcing my kid to write out some old-fashioned thank you notes. I had fun too, my own self...

I was amazed at the people who just dropped off their kids at a strangers house without a second thought. I couldn't do that...

I think they outlawed silly string in my state when I was too little to remember its use, too flamable I've heard. But it sounds like you guys had a great time. So are you saying you don't let her go to her friends' houses? Or are you saying you like to meet the parents once or twice before letting her go. I'm glad the party went well, now she is my little one's age (I call him my little one because he's the closest thing I'll ever have to a kid of my own.)

Yeah, I'm saying it bothered me that I had never met the kid or it's ...mom's boyfriend. They just knocked on the door and said "have fun, bbl"
This day and age, and all that. There were a couple others who never even got outta their car, just sat fiddling away on their "vices" (what I calls 'em). I mean, I'm as anti-social as the next repressed white girl, but DAMN-get outta yer car you lazy schmucks and at least shake a person's hand and say "Hi, my name is..." when you entrust yer kid's health and safety ta somebody else, that's all. Breakdown of basic human social skills. I think that should be the first class you get when you get to high school "dealing with humanity 101- and not de-evolving back into primates" Pass it or ya don't get drivin' privileges...

Anyhow... You.. don't want kids/can't/not in a position to anytime in the forseeable future?? Intentionally celibate, maybe?? 'Cause at 26 you got a ways ta go before yer eggs get all shrively. Heck, most of the other moms here are 40-ish...
