America loves a winner!

The Cars were a pivotal part of the 80's MTV era. So many icons now gone... Petty, Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, Ocasek…

We're getting older and so are they.

No kidding. I just heard some porn star died at 43 yrs old. No idea who she was, but dang, 43 is damn young to snuff it. IDC how much ' work ' she did in the business, you can't tell me she lived a FULL life.

Pardon the random sidetrack, but we don't see how hard some of these musicians live, it's a miracle some have lasted as long as they did, all things considered.

I heard Petty and Prince both had chronic pain issues, and Ocasek had just underwent surgery … our memory of these folks are mostly formed from the peak of their careers, through the lens of skilled camera, makeup and costume pros who made them the most packageable to the market.

*sigh*

When I was in High School, There was a show on TV late Saturday nights for those who had nothing better to do. Called Saturday Night Live. They had sometimes musical guests, which were a complete waste of time. Frequently these music guests loved by drug addictgs had names which were one-word objects, such as The Doors, the Monkeys, The Beagles, The Knack, The Troggs, The Yardbirds, etc.

Then I was once watching some new show, on Friday night, called Fridays. It was hilarious, the cast was great, with IIRC Fred Willard, Michael Richards, Malanie Chartoff.
Thje first show they had a musical guest, and the show had been going so well up til that point. Then the act was announced, and it was another one-word object name again, so I was prepared to be disappointed. But this was different. The song was catchy, the beat was moving. I believe it was My Best Friend's Girl. The group was The Cars.
From that point on, I tried watching every episode of Fridays that I could, which got me hooked on Michael Richards.
I have owned a CD of every album The Cars put out.

Rest In Peace, Ric. You made our lives more lively.
