For the past few days I've seen a number of news and TV articles on the web. Mostly from another show called Farscape. I've been checking out this show and it's pretty good.

The show is way different to Firefly, no Cowboys, no Serenity and no Train robbery but Farscape is a very good show in its own way. The Farscape story starts simple but goes deep, the alien creatures are better than any other sci-fi show, and the production, acting and FX are very good. Farscape lived much longer than Firefly, but it too was shut down before it could finish ( I've read it was cut on a real cliff hanger episode ).

So as many of you Browncoat folks know Farscape has also a big following with writers, actors, producers, and fans pushing to bring it back. Unlike Firefly the people in Farscape have gone for the idea of a mini-series, so that the story can be finished.

I was wondering what are your thoughts on
if Firefly went for the idea of a Mini-Series.
A big worry with the movie is that it can be hard to introduce all the characters, tell the story of what has happened before, and continue with the plot.

Having a Mini-Series would be a great way for the show to tell the full story and recruit new fans. Understanding that there will be a heap of complicated legal paper to go through, and I've been hearing Foox still have rights to the TV show, but wouldn't it be great if it could return. Didn't Universal do great with some other TV shows like Xena, and Twin Peaks ?
Having a TV series would be a fantastic way to finsh the firefly story.
I've heard that Joss would like to do a mini-series of Firefly, but none of us know how complicated the legal matters are or what's the story with Fox. Perhaps if Firely had a set mini-run on TV, allowing people to actually see it instead of hunting for the show at its random broadcastings when it was first aired. If firefly was promoted and helped by a good studio, adverts before baseball or advertisements in the evenings Tv. If this happened more fans would have discovered FF.

After the Big movie maybe some enthusiam of the new fans and want Firefly on Scifi or some other channel for either a mini series or a weekly TV show. It would be grea if Joss could finish the story, showing each character in this fantastic future world and telling the firefly tale to the finsh in a nice Firefly/Serenity mini Series.

Firefly-Serenity .... the Mini-Series ! ? What are your thoughts, is it a good idea ?

Farscape... ahh, yes, I'm about as excited for that mini series as I am for Serenity. And Farscape could not have ended up a bigger cliffhanger.

Select to view spoiler:

The main male and female (John and Aeryn) were on a boat in a lake on a random planet, and had just decided that they were going to get married. Aeryn was having John's baby, was also something that came out on that little boat. Then, just as they're elatedly happy, a random alien came along in a space ship, shot them with something, and they evaporated into dust. Leaving everyone back on the spaceship to start wailing in grief... and it ended. It was HORRIBLE! I think I burst out crying when I saw that.

So, umm, I know this is off topic, but I would highly reccommend Farscape to ANYONE. Some people say its difficult to get into but go into it with an open mind and be prepared to be confused for a few episodes and you will learn to LOVE Farscape's unique brand of humour vs action vs intellect.

A mini series, actually, would only be perhaps twice as long as a movie... though twice as long is always a good thing. Personally I would love to see Firefly continue in EVERY medium - movie, mini series, and hopefully if the movie and mini series were successful, back to full TV show again!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

As much as I would love the idea of a full Firefly series back on tv, I have a feeling a trilogy of films is all we are going to get. Maybe some books and comics, but that's about it, and Joss will probably try to wrap up the story he wanted to tell in a long series in the three films, because he knows he can't be guaranteed of anything beyond that. Besides, when the BDM and its sequels are big hits, our BDH are going to be innundated with other offers and it might be a long time before they would be available for any more Firefly.

I don't like this prospect anymore than would any other Firefly fanatic, just trying to be realistic.

I second, third and fourth that. Farscape was a genuine attempt to do something radically different within familiar trappings (Buck Rogers meets Blakes 7 to name but two influences) - the writing and cast raised it consistently into the top of fan favourite polls.

Some episodes were awful, just awful - but if you don't risk falling on your face, you never reach the stars.

The show had wit, action, emotion in equal amounts, and was genuinely adult. The cliff hanger ending was a slam in the guts, as the show had had a great season

John saying goodbye to his father from the moon, the alternate universe crew, the two Crichtons etc etc

As I understand it, this movie may be the jumping off point for more Farscape - either another mini-series or a movie (sounds unlikely to return to weekly TV).
