I don't recall if I already mentioned this, but I was recently reminded one big reason that I fell easily into the Castle premise was because I am a Duesie, or fan of Due South.

See if you can relate to the similarity.
Canadian Mountie, very talented at catching criminals, is matched with, and befriends Chicago cop. Cop supervisor is wary of interloper working on cases, but likes the results. Cop has nearby associates cop pair (Huey and Louie) who are competitive but provide comic relief. Interloper spend lots of time hanging out at the cop shop. Interloper produces some jealousy because he is popular with the ladies.

I have been trying to recall other shows which have a similar forced-partner cop setup, but none are coming to mind now.
Movies would be The Hard Way, Showtime, but not sure if Lethal Weapon is quite the same.

Edit: I should have clarified that in these pairings, one is a non-cop.
Also, White Collar is another.

Not quite sure why you wouldn't think Lethal Weapon doesn't qualify.
It's a TV show as well nowadays and actually better than I expected.
(To be fair, I expected the worst)

I was thinking, but did not clarify, that this "forced partner" involved a non-cop in the pair. Due South was RCMP Constable Benton Frasier and Chicago PD Detective Ray Vecchio. Castle is Castle and Beckett.

Many shows and films rely upon the beginnings of a relationship, whether love, rooming arrangements, work, etc - because the beginnings of a relationship is the most entertaining to watch, and for some this is in real life as well. Thus newly paired partners of cops are fairly commonplace - almost every cop show and film have this template - except Hill Street Blues, that I recall right now. NYPD Blue wasn't really a new pairing as I recall, but much turmoil kicked things off with musical-chair pairings.
Lethal Weapon has 2 cops, and tho newly paired, neither is a non-cop. That was why I posted that.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable or the Chicago Police Department Detective?
(It's been a looong time since I've seen an episode, and I wasn't a big fan.)

Under your guidelines, how about 48hrs with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy (his best role, IMO)?
For TV, how about Bones? Or do you not consider an FBI Agent a cop?

The Mountie was in Chicago, working at the Canadian Embassy, and he hung out at the Chicago Police Precinct. No inter-agency cooperation was official.

Two excellent examples, which I wasn't recalling a few days ago.
One might even fit Beverly Hills Cop as well, as Axel Foley was an interloper, albeit a cop from Detroit - the case of Mikey's murder wasn't officially in his jurisdiction.

X-Files had both as Feebs, right? But maybe Mulder wasn't exactly toeing the line.
