Known for his roles in Firefly and Dollhouse, both with Joss Whedon, just to name a few, the actor will now play one of Abraham Lincoln's strongest political opponents, with a new twist in the film

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a re-imagining of the 16th President's life that depicts him as an axe-throwing, highly accomplished killer of vampires -- an obsession of his since those bloodsuckers supposedly took the life of his mother. Lincoln eventually learns that the vampires have fled to the southern states of the U.S. and are concocting a plan to conquer and enslave the entire country -- this in turn leads to the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy, the latter of which the vampires are aligned with.

Tudyk has been cast as Stephen A. Douglas in 20th Century Fox's 3D adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. In history, Douglas was a strong but respected adversary of Lincoln within the Republican Party. After rallying support for the Union once Civil War was announced, he died a few weeks later. In the vampire adaptation, Douglas is depicted as an ally of the Southern vampires.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) in 3D. Stage and screen actor Benjamin Walker has been selected to portray the re-imagined title character, while Dominic Cooper (The Devil's Down, Captain America) signed on as Abraham Lincoln's mentor in the film and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will portray the role of Will, Lincoln's best friend. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgim VS The World) is Mary Todd, Abe Lincoln's love interest and eventual wife who is a major influence to his dual life in the film. Jimmi Simpson and Robin McLeavy have joined the cast as well with McLeavy playing Abraham Lincoln's mother.

Keep the Shiny side up

Since Stephen Douglas was barely 5 feet tall, this'll be quite a reverse stretch for Alan.

Not sure about the 1st scene but he seems to die in every movie or TV show he appears in, maybe the "Oscars" and "Emmys" should have an award for best death scene? He'd be nominated every year
