Didn't say she was. I just didn't expect that to happen at the end of the show.

What Would Mal do ?

dear God please don't do the typical, rip open your shirt to show that you were wearing a vest thing...every time a show takes the easy way out, they always show them peeling back the zipper or shirt to show the vest...

course it was way better written /directed than Chuck which passed it's last 42 minutes at a break neck, no depth to plot pace that i felt like I was watching back to back commericals...Chuck bedside..chuck breaks into the highest security prison - no details, chuck on a super motorbike breaks into a truck - no details - leaves with prisoner on 200mph bike..no helmet..anyone ever tried running on a bike at 100mph and catch a bug in the face?!
I've seen more depth in an episode of Spongebob!

anyway...yeah...nice exit for the Captain, and Beckett probably knew she had to flush out the bad guy by being the ultimate bait..so she takes one in the chest..well, in the bullet proof vest , and lays there for a second stunned and knocked out for a second so she doesn't hear Mal's proclamation of love. or wakes up with a head wound and doesn't remember anything and has to read all of Castle's novels to find out who she is..yeah..that'll work.

There was blood on her. Though, it could have been a squib so they could make it look like she's dead to give them time to get that last guy...

You should really put spoilers around the paragraph about Chuck just to be safe. I only read the first little bit so I don't know how spoilery it is but it would be considerate of you towards folks that haven't seen the Chuck finale yet (myself included). This is thread about Castle's finale (obviously) folks wouldn't expect to read plot points about other just aired shows.
Of course if there are no spoilers then ignore my request.

As for the episode itself then I thought it was a great way for the Captain to go although I will miss him. He was a great character that went against the typical Hollywood 'shouting' boss who is constantly irritated by his detectives.
I kinda thought Beckett might get shot (and I saw blood too) when the Captain stated in the hanger to Lockwood that he'd made sure she was okay - or something to that effect. I didn't expect Castle to declare his love for her. I hope they don't do what they said and just don't talk about it. But in the same way I don't want them together until the final series finale. I don't want the 'Moonlighting Curse' to strike this show. But I have faith in the writers - they haven't let the show down yet.

And on a minor note this was a dark (excellent) episode and am I right in thinking there wasn't a single joke in the whole episode? I can't remember even one but it definitely worked.

Looking forward to next season already.

Since I'd just watched the finale of Hawaii Five-0, about a third of the way through the Castle finale I was going, "Awwww, please don't let Montgomery be in on it! He's the coolest police captain ever! They just pulled that with the Governor on Five-0!!"

Oh, and here's a cool interview with Castle's creator...

Well thanks a bunch for that.
I'll say again that this thread is about Castle, not Chuck or Hawaii Five-0. Not everyone gets to see the shows when they air (or very soon after). Comments about other shows that contain plot information should be in spoilers. Especially when it's about the finale.
Thanks again.

Yeah it seems to be a theme this year, have already seen it on a couple other shows...Unfortunately very true to life because the bigwigs ARE almost always in on it...

That was the topic on the news this morning...powerful men who do REALLY dumb stuff...

What Would Mal do ?

hi LWaves, thanks for calling me on the spoiler alert.. I didn't consider my post to be spoilers on core plot but you're right, I don't want to ruin if for others either..sorry.

that said, yes, we saw the blood on Beck...

but more important than any plot was about midway through the episode I remember saying outloud to my wife " ah....there he is ! " it was Mal..the brooding intensity, the passion, the pent up love and torment..everthing that Mal was at the most important times suddenly shown through in Nathan's Castle character in a way I've not seen him do in a good while...it was the best moment of TV that night....made me want to go pull out a Firefly DVD.

I stopped reading that section once I realised they were plot points about Chuck. Now I've seen the Chuck finale and your bit there was nothing major referenced just basic plot for the early part of the episode. So no harm done anyway, although I was expecting someone to be shot and then have it revealed they wearing a vest. Kind of like a false spoiler??

As for Castle then I noticed a little bit of Mal in there as well. I could picture him reacting that way with Inara in a similar situation. It's almost like Mal and Castle were played by the same actor.

One of my fave moments was the little argument/fight between Ryan and Esposito. It was uncomfortable in a good for TV way and they didn't drag it out like most shows would. Both guys knew the answer, Ryan reluctantly accepted it and Esposito tried to go against it. This is one of the main reasons I love this show, the non-leads get some good stuff to work with and aren't just tag-alongs.

Ditto seeing a whole lot of Mal welling up in that portrayal of Castle's deep, dark frustration. I could imagine Inara on the receiving end.
Will miss R S-H, but he wasn't being given nearly enough to do in the series.

Well that was a great episode! But really - the black guy gets it again! C'mon!

On a different note. Does anyone else think they're channeling the show towards an Esposito/Ryan spin-off?
