I never watched it, and was considering checking it out, but I guess now I won't.

And in the defense of Warehouse 13, that show is just plain fun. Myka and Pete are great on screen together.

But back to BSG, I guess they're working on other prequels set around the time of the war.

I love the new BSG and I kinda liked the idea of what they were trying to do but I wasn't overly impressed by the pilot and then it lost me a few episodes into the first season.
It's no big shock that it's gone and I won't miss it but I do wonder if/how this will affect the planned TV movie/pilot showing the young William Adama and the first war with Cylons. To me this sounds much more appealing than what Caprica was trying to do. Guess we'll have to see.

Frak you, Chris. It was a very well-written and acted show, and Stoltz was doing the best work of his career. Yeah, it may have been a bit slower paced that it should have been, but it even had plenty of 'splosions for the more intellectually challenged such as you. You go on and on about what I consider crap shows so I don't take your opinion too seriously most of the time.

As much as I wanted to enjoy it, the prequel was a bit clumsy in how the story was moving along.

Sorry to hear of its demise.

Expired, forgotten, spoiled rotten.

It is going to be replaced with a new show called "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome" about Ensign Adama during the first war.

Gag.

If they want to continue a once great scifi show why not just give Firefly another season?

The first cylon war doesn't sound any more interesting to me. Basically there's no time period they can go back to that will capture the feel of BSG. They can try to milk every little bit out of the franchise but there just isn't any gold mine left.

I never got into Caprica and I don't even think I'll watch an episode of Blood and Chrome.

I liked the way Caprica filled in the details of the BSG world. The new one will be only about a decade in the future, and many of the Caprica characters will still be alive. So there are opportunities to finish the Caprica story. Heh, this may make the Caprica DVD set a big seller.

I, for one, am sorry to see it go. I was not a fan of the pacing (especially when they would jump around from character to character then suddenly find ourselves in the middle of something and - well, find myself scratching my head as to where we were in the story).

I was more of fan of the virtual world (and not for what one may describe as action) because of the storyline, which was interesting - the afterlife or, more to the point, immortality. The story was poorly developed and executed. I expected more from Jane. It's not surprising that it was cancelled, but I did like elements, my only complaint being that the story was not served well. Too much jumping around and following each storyline without resolution or, at the very least, dovetailing, interweaving of plot lines.

It was ambitious to a fault. I agree that Eric Stoltz gave til he bled, but it wasn't enough.
The next series will probably meet the same fate.

------------------------------------------------------------

I was not a fan of their overall pacing, but I did like the character development and I thought they hit on a good storyline with the virtual world, but then it went nowhere. Very frustrating too was their jumping from storyline to storyline trying to cover all and never really getting much across. One exception the story of Joseph looking for his daughter in the virtual world.

Otherwise I was a fan hoping that the writers would really let loose. I really thought it was doing well, but it didn't help that SyFy decided to break up Season 1. Oh well......sorry to see it go.

To compound my frustration, the Space Channel in Canada has the rights to air the five remaining episodes, and Ep. 14 was broadcast Tuesday night at the same time it would have been on in the US if SyFy hadn't canceled it. On top of that, I have not been able to find a torrent of it.

At first I didn't like Caprica and had something bad to say about every episode except the last 4 because I was so fed up I stopped watching them. Then I heard about the show being canceled so I went back to Amazon.com video on demand and downloaded the episodes I hadn't seen, and then watched everything from start to the last episode.

I must admit the show actually was starting to get interesting, and maybe I was wrong about it being a bad show.

I still don't understand why SyFy couldn't air the last five eps as planned even if they didn't intend to renew it. The way they've handled it is a slap in the face to not only the fans, but also to Ron Moore and David Eick, Jane Espenson, Drew Z. Greenburg, and all the other writers, actors and crew. I can't imagine that they think reruns of ST: TNG and Hollywood Treasure will bring better ratings.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd pin it on "DVD sales". They might be thinking that whatever ad time they had sold is already sold for the timeslot, so why not hold the eps hostage and make the fans who really want to see them PAY to see them. Just a thought. It's TV - they don't care about content or quality, only the money.

Since we're not likely to get any closure, I won't be buying the DVD set anytime soon, if ever. And I've been burned buy Syfy/SciFi enough times now that I'll likely not give them any more chances.

Yeah, I know that, but I meant why couldn't they have continued showing it on Tuesdays for the next five weeks. November is sweeps month for most of the major networks, but for SyFy they aren't running anything so special that they can expect any better ratings than Caprica would have got. There have been several other series the past few years (Flash Gordon and Painkiller Jane come to mind) that they allowed to air all of the produced episodes in order even though they had already made the decision not to renew. Just five more eps of Caprica...would that have been so hard to do?

But one episode got lost in DVR Hell, so now I must watch it hunched over Hulu. I'm only allowed to watch video on HughesNet sat between 2-7am, or service is throttled to 1kbs.

4 hours was too much marathon for me.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Chris, it was good of you to apologize. My ego sometimes gets in the way of me doing that. You are an example to us all.

I enjoyed Caprica. More as I continued to watch it. It wasn't always what we consider an 'exciting' show but it had good drama, sufficient action, character development, and it studied morality in a satisfying way.

Moreover, like BSG before it, it had quality.

Some people doubtless did not care for its specific qualities, but I don't think there are many who would argue against it being a quality show. One had the impression while watching it that it had been crafted by people who really cared. It felt like art to me.

I am a Trekkie, but in remembering some Trek episodes, I recall that some of them did seem thrown-together without much thought. Writing was sometimes very lazy. Acting was sometimes cringeworthy. The best Trek is art. The worst Trek was... lamentable.

But the quality of BSG and Caprica (two very different kinds of show) were both very high to me. Yes, the shows had low points and high points, but they never faltered in what I consider to be a catastrophic way. I felt that every frame was put together in a way that made it art.

Firefly also had Quality. Every frame oozed it.

Quality. That's what these shows had. That's something hard to find nowadays. I will miss it.

Easy EC, you know Chris likes to stir the pot every once and when.
But you're right, the show was a bit slowed-paced even for this Firefly Fan. There are some that would call our beloved show a bit "slow paced," but I digress.

In setting up the premise and overall dynamics, perhaps the writers could have moved things along. I agree that Eric Stoltz did his best work ever (he was fantastic as the mad scientist/father), I liked the girl (his daughter Zoe) and the brother Sam Adama. But the development of these characters was painfully slow, to me, and it distracted from the main theme (IMHO).

BTW the last 5 episodes were frakking awesome, and this, to me, is what could have been throughout the first season. There were times when they would introduce a storyline but then it would fizzle out and they would go in a new direction. The storyline with Amanda Graystone and her dead brother had me completely baffled, it went nowhere. What did it have to do with the rest of it. There was no connection (at least I didn't see it and I watched each show relgiously).

There was the storyline with Tamara Adama, which I really began to get into, faded. For several episodes - nothing. I was thoroughly disappointed. But I thought the whole religion aspect of the story was interesting and dynamic, subtlely commenting on our different belief systems and the morality of killing in "Gods" name. The battle between tech and non-tech modes of behavior, the soul, etc. The show entertained and made you think - What a concept! A show that actually makes you think - ahhh, sci-fi.

Sad, a blow to Jane Espenson as well. I think the show was stuck in a spin cycle in the middle there where the through story needed to move along. You have to have some momentum to grab the audience.

I also missed the humor from her Buffy days. She has a real talent there. Probably Ron Moore and co. weren't interested.

Agreed. It hit it's stride just as it got cancelled. Which is a shame because it could have last a few seasons. I was starting to really enjoy it even more, but it took too long in developing the characters and their contribution to the overall story.
