Firefly is not in contention here. It did not help sales of the Firefly class Transport Ship, and I don't think it spurred sales of particular ATVs.

I'm thinking of Smokey and the Bandit generating the sales of a lot of Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams in the late 70's.

Possibly Bullit helped sell some of the 1968 Ford Mustang GT. Although released in October 1968, the production run of '68s was surely over, but maybe the next year had a similar model.

James Bond has featured some nice cars, like Astin Martins, but they seemed to get destroyed a lot.

Back To The Future made DeLoreans more recognizable, but I think production may have been completed (1982) by the time the film was released (1985), so would not have increased production or sales.

Perhaps as a TV series, Knight Rider boosted sales in the 80's, again with Firebirds or perhaps Trans Ams.

I don't think Charlie's Angels helped sell many Mustangs - that generation of Stangs were complete dogs, following the fuel crisis.

Dukes of Hazzard made a 1969 Dodge Charger more famous, but a 10-year old model did not spur further sales/production in the past.

Magnum, P.I. may have featured a Ferrari, but I wonder how much the sales (or price, reflecting demand) were impacted.

Although GM/Pontiac promised Burt Reynolds a Trans Am for his work in Smokey, Pontiac never fulfilled their promise.

What do you think are other films which translated to car advertisements?

1971) Vanishing Point, 1970 Dodge Challenger (Go, Kowalski!)

(Herbie) The Love Bug, 1963 Volkswagon Beetle
Rain Man, 1949 Buick Roadmaster
American Graffiti, 1932 Ford Coup
Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 1961 Ferrari GT
The French Connection, Lincoln Continental Mark III
  & 1971 Pontiac LeMans,
Mad Max, 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon
Gone in 60 Seconds, 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500

A short list, yes ... of the movies on this list,
I didn't see American Graffiti or The Love Bug

So the original question is Which of these cars
caused a surge in car sales? ... I don't know.

That sounds like a valid nominee. I'm assuming that is an expensive vehicle.

I suspect that all of those save French Connection had their production run (and thus sales) ended prior to the film's release date.
Vanishing Point may have boosted the sales for the 1971 model if it was similar to the 1970.

In that case, it's best to find a movie that came out the
same week or month as the Star Car's model hit the market.
Hmmmm.

Or a year or so before.
So you've reminded me of Transformers (July 2007) which featured a 5th Generation Camaro (Bumblebe Edition) which started production in March 2009 for the 2010 Model year. I do know that some sales were generated from that film, not sure how much.
There was also a Frod Mustang in that film, may have boosted sales of the next year's model.

I just realized: already the 2 mentions of Firefirds (Pontiacs which had their styling stolen by the Chevy Corvette team for 1968, 1984, 1997 Corvettes since Chevy couldn't produce style.) And here is an example of Camaro, which until 2002 shared the same (F-Body) assembly lines as Firebird, but after GM cancelled Pontiac, only the Camaro returned.
