America loves a winner!

Saw it on an IMAX screen, with a mostly full house, on a Wednesday 5PM showing.

If you wanted epic monster fight scenes, in the day light and where you can SEE them, you're in luck.

Love Rebecca Hall, and while the others ( Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown and Alexander Skarsgard ) do nice for their parts, this franchise isn't about the humans. Some better humor than in KotM, but not by much. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say there was a touch of Pacific Rim ( in terms of style ) with out crossing over into the realm of Transformers. And that's a good thing. For the most part.

Now, for the spoilery stuff...

There were a few things which took a HUGE leap of faith to accept... even in this world.

Monarch somehow went to Skull Island, and Truman-show's Kong. Yep, in an effort to keep him and Godzilla from going at each other, Monarch builds this massive dome enclosure to keep Kong blissfully unaware that he's being kept in a zoo. Until one day, for no apparent reason, he decides to throw a tree trunk at the roof and reveal the charade.

1 little girl, from the Iwi tribe, remains alive. One. And she's deaf. And can 'speak' with Kong, via sign language. A 'storm' has sat perpetually on the Island for a period of time, and some how wiped out the natives which had lived there for centuries and lived along side massive monsters , but 'global warming 'wiped them out ? Lame.

Totally off screen, Monarch is able to knock Kong out, and sedate him while putting him on a ship. Umm, Ok.

More timey wimey space traveling via secret Hollow Earth transit system. The monsters show up exactly when and where the movie needs them to show up.

Godzilla is super agile. And always super pizzed. Apparently having gone nearly nuclear enables him to charge and fire his atomic breath almost on command. Like Hulk, now Godzilla is always angry.

In the 1st movie, it took a thwap of the tail and a few seconds to 'charge up'. Not anymore.

Wasted effort by most of the actors in this movie. Lines are too glib, too campy, and they're written almost like for a sitcom episode.

Yes, there's a Pacific Rim element in the appearance of Mecha-Godzilla. Which is fine, but not enough time is spent on its development or build up.

And yes, there's a Mind Stone aspect to Mecha as well. Somehow this energy which is the key to everything, APEX only needs a copy of its power signature, and then it can instantly replicate it and power up Mecha-G. Only that shorts out everything and the AI + the DNA of Ghidorah fuse ( some how ) and voila! Monster Zero ( Kevin ) in the frame of Mecha Godzilla )

Absolutely.

Remember when movies would open up on the weekends, but we'd get 'midnight' showings, on Friday. Then Thursday. Now the 'weekend' opening starts on a Wednesday at 5pm.

IMAX? Nice...closest one to me is about 4hrs away.
And our local theaters suck.

I saw it on HBOmax, albeit on a pretty nice home theater system.
It wasn’t great, but I overall enjoyed it. It’s a turn your brain off and enjoy the spectacle kind of movie.

It would probably be out of the little theater down by my brother by the next time I visit, but I would have liked to have seen it there. That's the only theater I have any interest in going to anymore.

I've gotten into too many fights with the inconsiderate in theaters before. That never happens down there.

I'm going again tomorrow. Different theatre.

* Better venue the 2nd time

Good crowd for 1:35 show on a cloudless Saturday. Before Easter.

* more spoilery thoughts *

I liked the little girl more, though I wish she wasn't the last of the ENTIRE Iwi tribe. That backs story sucked. An entire ancient people wiped out by... rain?

But I really wish when Kong was taken down in the match with Godzilla , she would have reacted more. She just kinda sat there, and was like ' meh, oh well '. She cried when she thought he was gonna die, so why no shocked scene when he didn't initially get up? A missed opportunity, imo.

Madison, her buddy and the podcast guy are standing right NEXT to the door to the sacrificial arena when the skull crawler comes out. So why in the hell do they start running TOWARDS the middle of the arena, ( which they've never even seen before ) instead of quietly going back the way they came? There's a skull crawler, and the mecha-Godzilla, which just as easily could have stomped them to death... just a stupid set up scene for when the cascade of green blood falls down all over the windows above them.

They crawl though some maintenance shaft, and come up through a floor panel. There's a massive window to the next room, but and it's full of people, and yet they go up and start pushing buttons anyway. Clear as day, they can be seen, they know it, and yet they continue anyways, and get caught. What the hell?

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I'm just a red pill guy in a room full of blue pill addicts.

Man... Donkey Kong's going to get sued.

Didn't he ever see Ghostbusters II?

My old man went back to the theaters for the first time since the Coomph came about when he saw my brother this week. Now I wish I'd gone.

He said exactly what I thought he'd say about the movie. Typical Hollywood schlock with a dumb story, but the special effects were pretty epic and worth the $5.
