America loves a winner!

Didn't see another thread on this movie yet, so I'm starting one here.

I liked it.

A lot.

For the comic geeks, those truly vested in the whole story line of Captain America and such, I do have questions.

But for the movie...

Select to view spoiler:

Minor issues

1. I get how Bucky may have been experimented on, before he and other soldiers were freed, but was he the only one? But mainly, how did Dr Zola get his hands on Bucky after he fell from the train ? Zola was captured at that point, and then taken by Captain America and company. But in his flashback, Bucky had survived the fall, he looked up and saw Dr. Zola and Hydra goons come 'collect' him.

2. Peggy. She'd have in her 90's for her to still be alive. And yet, there she was. I had been wondering if there was any possible way she'd be reunited with him, but with her on her deathbed ( it would seem ) wasn't it. I had been fully resigned w/ the idea that she'd have already died, by the time he was revived. For me, that more than anything was the heartbreaking reality that Steve Rogers had to deal with, above all else that he'd lost. Seeing her again, with the decades separating them both, was truly bitter sweet.

3. I just wanna say how great it was to see Maria Hill ( Cobie Smulders ) leave SHIELD and end up in the private sector, applying at Stark Industries.

( I really hope she's not a super secret member of Hydra )

I thought it was great. One of the best Marvel studios movies yet. Depending on my mood at the time it could even be my favorite.

Select to view spoiler:

It's a good point about Dr. Zola being captured at that point. I guess it could have been really bang bang. Like he fell and they found him and started experimenting on him minutes later and then put him on ice before being captured. Or those memories could be jumbled by the brain washing.

Peggy was a mistake IMO. That was the one clunky scene in the whole thing and if you removed it I don't think it takes anything away from the movie.

I liked how Cap and the Winter Soldier seemed really evenly matched. It was nice to have a villain that could have multiple encounters with the hero over the course of the film and feel really threatening in all of them.

Lesser gripes: The Winter Soldier got like 3 clean shots off on Fury and didn't kill him? Please. Fury's super heart slowing medicine sounds like it would in itself kill a person. Your heart beating once per minute sure sounds like your brain wouldn't be getting enough oxygen to survive. The fight on the ship at the beginning between Cap and the head of the pirates was clearly on gym pads. They can do better at disguising stuff like that I'm sure.

STORYMARK

Addressing a spoilery question:

Select to view spoiler:

Zola didn't capture Bucky after he fell. The work he had done on Bucky prior to his capture/Bucky's rescue allowed him to survive the fall and severed arm - but the cybernetics and brainwashing were done by the Soviets, who found him near-death. Then, once the Soviet Union collapsed, Hydra/SHIELD were able to take control of him. (re-reading..., was Zola in the flashback? I don't recall him there)

As for Fury surviving - a stretch to a degree, but the "one beat per minute" drugs do kind-of exist in the real world. And Fury presumably has access to the same Kree-Blood super-medicine formula used on Coulson and Skye.

ZEEK -

It WAS a clunky scene!

Select to view spoiler:

Although, with the issue of Steve 'dating', and the kiss he had to plant on Natalia ( oh, what he does for his country! ) the matter of Peggy had to be addressed, eventually. From the scene, I wasn't sure if this was their first contact or not. It may have been their first meeting, but I got the impression they had kinda been building up to this reunion, though I'm not sure.

As for Bucky, I'll have to re-watch that part where he has his flashbacks. I guess I'm a bit fuzzy as to why / how the Soviets got involved. He goes from being captured by the Germans ( Hydra ), found near dead by the Soviets, they see there's something different about him ( that he's not dead, I suppose ?) and do their own experiments, and he ends up back w/ Hydra... how ? I noted that red star on his bionic arm, but I guess I kinda glossed over that part.

I liked it but not az much az the 1st CA.

I watched sum Agents uv Shield on sunday & tuezday. Its kool that they tie it into the movie, but the show seemz lame to me. The Hydra member revelationz were not credible, so fell flat. Granted, I may not be into it kuz I havent watched the show befor & dont know the karaktrz. But, even so, I think its unlikely that the show measurez up to Firefly or Breaking Bad.

The bar for TV haz been raized over the last few decadez.

And no, one does not measure the bar by the lowest point, but by the highest marks. AOS has a long way to go...

Sorry if this is tangent.
In the last AoS on Tues. 15 April, why did Colson walk 7 miles in the snow instead of just taking the red car? I didn't see an explanation.

I did not see credits for the Twins - anybody know who they are, or when we'll see them again?
Or did nobody watch the 2 or 3 codas? Seems half the audience has left by the mid-credit coda, and about 5% are left for the final one.

For some time now, it's been hard to find the high points on TV.

I wondered about that too. Well, not so much the taking the 'Lola', but if they had the time to hoof it to the site before the satellites flew over head.

i stayed for the whole 9 yards. It isn't explained who the Twins are , but we see them in captivity, held by Hydra.

It's a whopper of a cross over.
