So there's one thing that I've wondered about since I saw it and never quite figure out what I thought. Wtf was Cameron doing at the end of 'Goodbye to all That' (Season 2 Ep 5)?

After Reese, John and Co. kill the Terminator, it pans to her in the trees, watching on. Was she waiting there to allow John to handle the danger by himself to give him room to grow as a soldier? I thought this sounded plausible but she is so damn protective in most situations, I dunno if she would have risked his life like that. Was she just late to the party? Or was she intentionally letting things play out with the possibility that one would die?

I'unno.

It's kind of hard to say one way or the other. Ever since the car explosion she was never quite herself.

I don't think she was late to the party. If she had time to watch she had time to move in, even if she couldn't do anything. I think in her twisted head she calculated that she could let things play out and see how John handled it. Cameron knew Reese was there as well so John wasn't completely unprotected but to me it was a signal that she had changed, more than her non-reaction to John being in trouble. If this situation had occured before the explosion then I think she would have gone straight in and saved him.

The action was at a boy's military academy. It started as a training exercise that got real when a hostile Terminator showed. John wasn't the target for assassination, it was little cadet Bedell. John got endangered when he improvised and started yelling, “Hey! It's me! John Connor!” If I had to give inscrutable Cameron a motive, I say she stayed hidden in the forest to see what John's plan was. She is not in charge of him; she's only his final line of defense.

And besides, wasn't Cameron suppose to be home that night babysitting the kid they kidnapped? She didn't want John to know she was there, sneaking around the woods in the dark, disobeying Sarah's orders to watch the sleeping kid. Instead, Cameron is watching John. If she had let him know she was there, John would think Cameron was creepy, like a celebrity stalker.

MENDUR

Cameron was always of interest to me for one particular reason (okay, two reasons, the first being Summer Glau): I don't know *which* future timeline she's from. Maybe, in the timeline she's from, what happened with Reese, John and the terminator is pure history and she was watching to make sure *her* timeline was still on track?

I always got the feeling she was trying to ensure that her future happened exactly the way it was supposed to ... and that at the end of the series, something had gone "wrong" with her version of events so she had to give John Henry her body.

The show was getting a bit trippy with temporal mechanics near the end, after all.

Not nearly trippy enough for me! This is how I think it could have gone, with little time travel paradox:

Cameron copied the personality of Allison, middle-age John Connor's flesh & blood girlfriend. The show wasn't specific how that was done, but Cameron did snap Allison's neck in an episode. Let's imagine something ghoulish for TV like an electron microscope scanning killed Allison's brain, sucking the ghostly outline of Allison's soul. It's a crude copy. However it was accomplished, it was a good enough to fool horny teenage John. The full-grown John Connor was/will (a time travel paradox) be much more discriminating. For a good story, that would be Cameron's biggest worry.

In the final episode, John Henry asked Cameron if she wanted to join them. She was probably computing, “Not really, nerd-boy with the pocket protector, but you got something I want.” I think Cameron was intending to use John Henry to learn fast how to be human.

John Henry started as a zero personality chess playing computer and he was quickly creating a nerdy life for himself, playing D&D with the computer engineers. Cameron could do the same, except her life-model is the real live Allison, who showed up in the last minute of the final episode. John Connor obvious had the hots for that Allison, which looked like Cameron. We could get the classic romantic triangle: jealous Terminator wants to kill boy friend's girl friend and take her place in his bed.

In some future episode, when she learned all Allison's quirks, secrets, and fears, Cameron would take her chip out of John Henry, put the chip into a hijacked Cameron model Terminator, then scare the living hell out of Allison -- maybe time machine maroon her in 1997, maybe break her neck, again (there's the paradox, again). Cameron replaces Allison to become John Connor's new old girlfriend. John Connor doesn't notice the switchover, but there is a new magnetism between him and "Allison." That would be weird enough that I would watch.

Ah good, some pretty interesting responses here, also, thanks everyone.
Additionally, two, I think your ideas are pretty darn interesting but it seems like it'd be too much of a soap opera with all that girlfriend usurping going on. Also, I think a large part of Allison's interrogation was for Cameron to learn about her, asking questions and watching as well as listening to her responses in order to become more like her.

I pretty much like the idea that since the explosion and damage to her chip it's as if the parameters that she runs on have changed, causing her to react differently now than she would have previously. It explains it quite a lot as despite the logical reasons that a human might stay back I still think that a machine who's primary objective is to maintain the safety of someone WOULD simply run in and directly repel the danger no matter what.

From now on, I shall answer all questions relating to Cameron's decisions in Season 2 with 'Her chip did it'

^_^

It may seem far too much for Sarah Connor Chronicles, but the same soap opera triangle, only more extreme, is being done this very season on Fringe www.imdb.com/title/tt1119644/episodes#year-2011 .

Fringe has Peter Bishop with his two identical girlfriends: Olivia and Faux-Olivia from the parallel universe. And to really go over-the-top, jump-the-shark, the fate of the two Universes will eventually depend on which Olivia is chosen by Peter because his unconscious feelings control a machine that will save only one Universe and utterly destroy the other. My Terminator scenario shows tasteful restraint compared to Fringe.

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles was and Fringe is on FOX. I think that a weird romantic triangle on one show could be repeated on the other in different form.

CYBERSNARK

I kinda liked the plot they were setting up with the duelling Skynets (between "real" Skynet [Skynet-A] and John Henry [Skynet-B]). Given how inevitable Judgement Day is, it makes sense that the only solution isn't to prevent it, but to change the outcome --what if, when Skynet judges humanity, we are found worthy?

Note that in the glimpses of the future, we start to see that the Resistance isn't "reprogramming" Terminators, it's asking them to join. It's like the Resistance is reaching out to this Skynet splinter-group (perhaps spawned by a malfunctioning T-1001), trying to unite against a common enemy.

I personally twigged to the idea that Cameron was sent back by Skynet-B. Everything she does teaches John that Terminators are not just mindless killing machines --and you can bet that that will have an effect on how he leads the Resistance (assuming he manages to return to the present and undo the "Connor-less" future he ended up in).

Imagine this for dramatic conflict: Cameron schemes to convince John Connor that Terminators can be lovable while Allison, his other girlfriend, wants all Terminators dead, dead, dead, especially Cameron. FOX would have to double Summer Glau's salary because she is playing two major characters per episode.

John Connor could decide not to make Terminators extinct and Skynet B could decide to show restraint on Judgement Day. John's offer to Skynet B: "You kill only half of humanity on Judgement Day, the bad half I don't like, and I'll only kill half the Terminators, the half Skynet B doesn't like. Is it a deal? If not, I'm going MAD -- Mutual Assured Destruction."

I just watched the seriez agen. Sum interesting obzervationz and ideaz here.

TWO! You shoud be a TV sifi writer!

1 uv the detailz I thot they shoud hav gotten into in the show & the moviez iz that the terminatorz would hav substantially different dezinez since they are not being dezined by the same Skynet. The 1st Terminator movie introducez an altered timeline in wich Cyberdyne gets the tek handed to them, prezumably by the orijinal version uv Skynet in a timeline in wich the tek gets invented from skrach.

Then the end uv T2 creates another timeline in wich Jujment Day iz averted. Then in T3 Arny tellz us "it can only be delayed"; that Jujment Day iz inevitable.

They hint at a cross time element in Salvation. Wen Skynet iz talking to Marcus it alwayz sez 'We' wen refering to itself and that he did sumthing no other terminator had been able to do befor 'bring Jon Connor to Us'.

I'm wondering about their choice uv song for Jon Henry to be teaching Savana.

"Donald werz your trouzerz?" ?

It seemz to be a song about a well hung kilt wearing exhibitionist, jujing by the lyrics.
