Just downloaded that version, and I don't see how you guys aren't hearing the "J" it's a completely different class of consonant. I was fully expecting to hear Kaylee, I figured I just had a bad version and that’s what all the fuss was about. I thought, Nathan messed up his acting and said nice work Kaylee to Wash my mistake. But he didn’t, not only does it sound different (Jerry instead of Kay), and he talking to Wash, but also he never says Kaylee like that, not once does he put that large of a pause between the Kay and the lee.

If we are to believe that he messed up and was supposed to say, “Nice work, Kaylee,” to Kaylee he did it on multiple levels. There was the J, and the fact that erry is a completely different sound from ay, don’t believe me say it a few times, the “y” is pronounced differently. Then there is the spacing that I just mentioned, it would be the only time in the entire series that he deviated from his normal spacing of the syllables Kay and lee. Because of the range of normal speech for me to say that it was a deviation means that it had to be quite far off, which it was.

Okay, I'm officially killing this argument on the board because it's pissing me off.

(CTC, I didn’t ask for you to respond, I only asked why people keep bringing up these long dead threads. Expect an e-mail soon because I'm not backing down, just not arguing on the board anymore.)

Here’s what I really, really, really want to know. Has anyone has seen in any episodes, or in any scripts, or has noticed any little things that might of given away how long Zoe and Wash have been together?

They look the same in later episodes as they did in the first ones. I know that theoretically time has supposed to have passed, but they just haven't changed enough physically to merit a very long marriage. Also, the disdain that Zoe shows Wash when they first meet, leads me to believe that it took Wash a long time to get on good terms with Zoe. So I am assuming that they have been together for probably under a year, perhaps a little longer.

You asked. See? I never said you asked me to respond, I just said you asked, and I answered.

I'm going to echo what Maniac said and say that it's been between one and two years, probably. They're still having disagreements about the past not on Serenity, so I suspect it's not been too long a time.

We know that when we pick up, it's been about six years since the Battle of Serenity, which may or may not have been the end of the war, but seems to have been the effective end for Mal and Zoe. Figuring loosely and with no particular reason that it would take them 2 to 3 years (from the Valley) to buy a ship and up to a year to find a pilot, then the earliest Wash could have come on board was around is approx. 2514. He could have come aboard as late as 2515. Then there's the amount of time it takes for him to realize he likes her (for more than just her terrific ass), for her to get over her distaste of him and then for them to get married. At the same time, Zoe seems the kind to know and understand pretty quickly, so maybe their courtship was relatively quick.

All that for one to two years.

I second Kaythryn in the closing of the previous topic. My passion for Wash burns like a thousand blue suns. My mind will only be changed by the man himself.

Hey now, lqdcrct! Let's not get all bash-happy here...officially, Wash didn't get a full name canonically in any way on-screen until the Big Dam Movie, when it's printed on his tombstone/burial marker. Plus, if you were to look at the time stamp codes from every entry before yours? They're from 7 years ago, before ANY kind of material (i.e. novels, comic books, RPG sourcebooks, etc.) had been done in an official capacity.

Not really surprising when it comes to anything Whedonesque...Faith didn't get the surname "Lehane" for something close to a decade after the character was first introduced on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." So there's precedent for major characters being known by their first name or nickname only until having a last name is needed.

IIRC the DVD set was still a rumor when the last '03 entry was posted.

All I had then was a set of already well worn VHS tapes...

Gosh, and after all these years, I never noticed the character names in the opening credits....

I thought Wash's proper name was Hoban Washburn. I have seen Zoe's name as Zoe Washburn, which would mean she assumed his surname upon marriage, which is hard to believe btw. But where did "Jerry Lee" come along? Is this a joke? And if her surname was Warren did he assume HER name upon marriage? ...which wouldn't surprise me btw.

EDIT: Oh, oops. I should have read a few entries up. Yep: Hoban "Wash" Washburne and Zoe Alleyne Washburne (nee Warren) Although, I still don't buy that women 500 years from now will still be adopting their husbands surname.
