I'm not sure if this has ever been suggested before, but truth be told i'm a little too lazy to look.
So here goes:
In the Objects in Space introduction when River is hearing the voices before she awakens it sounds like Jubal is saying "we're all just floating."
Someone suggested in another thread that when River is wandering around she's looking for the source of that voice. I think that is a VERY good idea.
After Jubal boards the ship and after he's fought Mal, and has him hanging by the shirt before dropping his is where i want to bring your attention. Jubal is holding Mal until we see that Zoe has stopped stirring i think the knows this and let's Mal fall.
He also seems to know a lot more than he should about the ship. Crew, layout, history. It could be that he studied the ship and crew, or it could be that he's like River.

Do you think maybe that Jubal was like an earlier version of what River is, except he is somewhat of a failure. (someone also suggested that they could have been making an operative out of River)
I say this because he seems to have a connection with River and i think River felt it too.

Hmm... can't say I hold with the idea of Jubal being part of the experiments. That episode is definately playing off of them being almost kindred spirits in some fashion or another, though.

Listening through Joss's commentary on that ep, I figure that they both have similar ways of looking at the 'verse, they just come to different conclusions.

Figure Jubal happens to be very intuitive, and is able to make certain connections based on the way he percieves things. Kind of makes sense to me, too, that River would have been pretty intuitive as it stood, even without all the tampering she'd been through.

Anyways, Joss is much better at describing that episode than I could do. :P

It is Jubal's voice that says "we're all just floating". Joss says so in the commentary. As for the Zoe stirring and Jubal's perfect timing, I think that is skill and timing that is to good because it is a TV show. And as for Jubal's connection to River, if he had any abilities like River does he would have know she wasn't on the ship. I just think he like to spill Philosophical bullshit, and River just enjoyed messing with his head.

But thats just me.

ya i have side with u on this because threw out the whole show Jubal is trying to find River on the ship and if he did have the powers River did he would have found her in a a hart beat also the Doc clearly stated that Jubal was a bounty hunter and did not work for the Goverment.

I seriously doubt that he has any extrasensory skills like River. However, I do think it's very possible that he's an ex-Operative, which would explain his extensive knowledge, as it would be natural to him to do that much research. Those quirks and odd lines he uses are probably a combination of his mental disorder River calls him on and ticks anyone would develop after spending that much time in such a testing (morally and physically) job.

Yeah, I'm with you guys (if for nothing else, because I cringe at the idea of River and Jubal really having some sort of connection; *shudder*).

Besides, if a man has to ask: "Am I a lion?", when you're talking about the Alliance, then you clearly have no great affinity with them. Besides, he even says so to Simon, that he thinks it odd Simon would even ask.
