Man, what I would give to have forgotten all about the Firefly episodes and be able to watch them as for the first time all over again.

That'd be cool. I mean, I'd rather just have new episodes, but you make do with what you get.

HONKS

Glad your enjoying *G*. It just gets better.

It's "I'll be in my bunk." Just a clarification. Come time you'll be able to quote all the lines.

War Stories had to be the most character-driven, first season action/rescue episode I have ever seen. My first thought was to compare it to "Chains of Command", a Star TRek TNG episode in which Capt Picard is tortured... but that took palce in - forgive me - season five? Six?

The reactions of the characters and their interactions - it was mature, well-planned writing. (OK - Jayne's look and comment "I'll be in my cabin" regarding Innara's client left me howling as well!)

Granted, I don't watch much TV anymore. Maybe all show writers have stepped it up a notch or two... but if (as I suspect) that is not the case, then JW and the other writers... well, I actually don't know what to say. That the show was cancelled really is a tragedy. I also suspect (unlike the X-Files, which led us down the garden path only for us to discover there was no 'there' there) that this story probably had an actual middle and end. (sigh)

Well, Netflix is sending me Serenity tomorrow. No spoilers, please! I'm hoping for the best.

This is really disappointing, actually. Gorramn Alliance suits muckin it up for the rest of us!

i'll be in my cabin? i believe the correct line is 'i'll be in my bunk'

"can we vote on the whole killing people issue?"

Welcome, welcome! Not sure if FollowMal has been around yet to give you your brown coat.

War Stories is one of my fave eps too, mostly because it develops Wash's character in very concrete ways. It's got to be tough to be in his shoes--married to Zoe, and all. I think the episode does a good job of exploring that reality.

War Stories is also my favorite. You get to see just how much strenght of character Mal has. First from how he holds up under Niska's torture and second how much loyalty he inspires in the crew, I doubt that Jayne would attempt to storm a skyplex for just anyone.

Jayne didn't just storm a skyplex.

He stormed a skyplex for free.

And that after he had already tossed cashy money into the ransom voluntarily.

Now this is just downright amazing for Jayne, the guy we've seen turn on his crew at least 3 times (his partner from Jaynestown, the crew he was with in Out of Gas, and Ariel). For Jayne to do this means Mal is an amazing leader of men, women and trained apes without the training.

It has been suggested that hypnotism is maybe the answer to the wow facter the first time viewers get. I personally just love watching the episodes again, there always appears to be something that you missed the 1st, 2nd, 3rd ect time round.

Give it a little while, you'll see what I mean.

AMITON

I've got to agree with Windie. Going back and watching the episodes again now does have a completely different feeling, and I think it's different in a good way.

When I go back and watch the episodes now, unlike the first time, I'm already deeply invested in all of the characters and their relationships. It's not just that I know what happens to them in the future and that ruins the story, but they've developed, grown, and matured. It's almost like a completely different show that had great writing when I first saw it, and now it has great friends doing the roles so I care even more.

Plus, as time passes we get to see more and more analysis, so we have things to see anew in the characters - see the talking around River thread. That's something I entirely missed the first umpteen times through.

And over time I've grown as a person, too. The characters in Firefly are really deep and emotionally charged. And part of that is that they're written in a way that we relate to. They have similar experiences to some of the things that have happened to each of us in our lives. They deal with struggles, and the actors are so high quality that they can accurately convey the emotions and conflict that go with those scenarios.

Damn, I really love this show...

Amiton.

War stories is also my favourite too, its the most you get to see of Wash in any of the episodes, and it really makes clear Wash and Zoe's devotion to each other.
Watch it with the commentry on, with Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion, tis hi-larious!

Damn you Fox! Damn you to Hades!!

Well said!

I've watched the series many times now. Each and every time I notice some little thing I missed before. There's so much depth to the show.

*hugs Joss*

I have to agree with the suggestion to watch that commentary. I watched it last night during a Firefly sleepover with my friend and we could not stop laughing. Those two are hilarious!

War Stories is definitely one of my favorites, too. As someone else mentioned, it's probably the most we get to see of Wash, which of course is a plus. It shows practically every relationship on the whole ship and just how close and loyal they all are. Everyone steps up to help save Mal, willing to play their part and do things they ordinarily would never do.

I only wish I had seen Firefly before I saw Serenity... there were some parts that would've been much more shocking in this episode (and, really, all the others, too) if I didn't already know from the movie how some things turn out.

We could use your support and, as people who know the pain of not-so-bright TV execs killing great shows... I think you just might feel for our cause.
