I really love this show. I am really hoping that it stays on the air for a long time.(Maybe WB or UPN will pick it up if Fox dumps it)

Anyway, when I watched the first two eposides, I had really strange thoughts. My first thought was that maybe

-Jayne has a thang for Kaylee.

-Jayne is a lot like Logan from the X-Men.
-Simon is way to into River. Are they really bro/sis, of course, but he's still way to into her.

-Jayne and River would make a cool/strange couple.
-Does Zoe really really love Walsh, or is she in love with Mal.

Oh, another thing, Does anyone have any spoilers?

Actually, I think maybe Jayne just has a soft spot for her at the moment and not quite a "thang" yet. He didn't seem too thrilled about Kaylee's interest in the Doc, though, and I thought that was where his animosity toward the Doc really took off. (I gotta say, I love the ensuing one-upmanship between Jayne and Simon. The give-and-take is fun to watch. So will this little war of pranks end up forming a solid bond between the two of them?)

Oh, and how about that basketball game, where Kaylee's up on Jayne's shoulders? Not to read too much into it, but I gotta wonder whose idea that was. I mean, Jayne's not the sort of guy you run up to and say, "Pick me up! Pick me up!"...(wait...let me rethink that)...heehee...

Although, I suppose if anyone would do that, it'd be Kaylee.

Hmmm. I think I understand why you made that connection, but I don't agree. Wolvie's gruff with people, but he wouldn't advocate leaving people like Mal and Zoe behind. I think, as far as Simon is concerned, that he's feeling guilty that these things happened to River and he didn't protect her. And that's why he's overprotective of her now. Mind you, that's just my guess from what we've seen, and I have to wonder if perhaps we'd be a whole lot better informed if we'd been able to see the REAL pilot first...(insert rant about frelling Fox executives here).

Jayne and River? Ehhh. I think River's got so much going on inside her right now that having a relationship with anyone, much less our rough-shod mercenary hottie, would be almost impossible. And I don't see her troubles settling down for a long while.

(Besides, while I admit I'm very interested in seeing the relationship between Mal and Inara, and a mild triangle between Kaylee, Jayne and Simon, I really don't want everyone on the ship paired up...

My theory? She loves Wash, but she's not the type of person to wax poetic over her marriage. Mal, she worships (for lots of reasons we haven't seen yet, but I believe she served under him in the war and there's something about one saving the other's life, perhaps)...but it's not the same as love.

Yup. And this pairing is just too juicy for the show not to explore.

Ew. I mean, you're right, but ew. In the premiere its referenced that Simon hasn't actually seen her for at least a few years. With that in mind he's awfully touchy-feely with her.

This never even crossed my mind. Her manner with Mal is one of total respect and loyalty, she seems almost a little uncomfortable relating to him when they aren't on some kind of a mission.

Speaking of strange thoughts:
-I'm not buying the UST between Inara and Mal. They're trying really hard, but there just isn't anything there.
-Book and Kaylee are the only two characters that seem to have any chemistry with Inara. And, hey, lesbians are fun, but Book and Inara would be a much more interesting couple. It could happen.

Jayne's my wife's and my favorite character so far, with Inara being a close second. I also like the way the rest of the crew, except for Simon, seem to view his behavior as "that's just the way Jayne is."

This latest episode showed us a little bit more about the galoot, if we paid attention.

1. The man is very, very tough. He took out six heavily armed guys coming to kill him and lived to tell the tale and keep the gun.

2. He's an incredible shot. When Jayne asked about shooting out the window, Mal told him to go for shorting out the net. He not only took out the net, but managed to put three rounds through the window, killing the two scavengers with explosive decompression!

Looking forward to the Jaynestown episode next week.

Re: Simon's tactile tendencies toward River...well, watch her. Half the time she's locked inside her head, which must be a strange and frightening place these days. When Simon tries to talk her back out, it takes him a while just to get her attention. Touching her is one way to get her out faster.

And the show would be less visually engaging if he just stood there and talked at her.
