Out of Gas and Objects in Space get me every time. And the funeral scene in The Message...the mood in each of those is made even that much more dramatic and heart-wrenching by the terrific music.

Nathan Fillion is my acting idol. Fpr serious. And the part that ALWAYS gets me, no matter how many times I watch it, is in the message when Tracey says "That means you just murdered me." And Mal replies "No son, you did that yourself. I just carried the bullet a while, is all." His face there is just amazing, it shows the anger and the sadness and the recognition of how tragic it all is.

.... wait, what?

After reading all above I realise there are quite a few moments throughout the series that made me teary-eyed, but the scene which affects me the most personally is toward the end of the BDM when Simon has just been shot and says to River, 'I'm sorry....I hate to leave'. She replies 'you take care of me Simon, you've always taken care of me. My turn!' Then she runs off to fight the Reavers.
Most of the time I can't watch the scene I have to skip past it....it is SO well acted by Sean and Summer.

Ok..... Mean horrible person to make me think of this.

Out of Gas made me think "Oh no! He can't be dead!!!!"

BUT the one that made me cry like a little baby was the scene in Serenity the movie when Wash dies!!!!! ...How dare they... kill off Wash. He was the best one (closely followed by Mal. Loosing Wash was like loosing your right arm!

If they ever make another series or movie it just wont be the same again without that sweet, lovable, funny character running around.

Absolutely "Out of Gas".
Also, I cry for the entire post-Wash section of BDM. That just breaks my heart every single time.

I don´t admit crying, but some episodes have very strong and emotional scenes.

The funeral scene at The Message is awesome, if I was a girl or otherwise used to crying I would cry out loud. The faces of the characters, the music and the message, just perfect.

Also every scene where River is feeling bad and I can´t do anything to help her :`(

Theres plenty of more but can´t remember them all now.

WATCHASISOAR

"Out of Gas" might be the most emotional episode. The episode opens with Mal falling to the floor, then panning down to the gunshot wound. The first time I seen that, I actually said "Oh my god". Through the entire episode he is dragging himself around, on the brink of death, trying to save his ship, and his crew. Then at the end of the episode when he asks the crew if they'll still be there when he wakes up, I think I shed a few tears.

In "Ariel", When Mal has Jayne in the airlock in "Ariel". When Mal talks about how any actions against his crew were actions against him. Then when Jayne accepts the fact he is going to die and says "Make something up. Don't tell 'em what I did".

Either of River's speaches in "Safe" and "Objects in Space". River might be the best character on the show, she always has something meaningful to say, although it is very cryptic sometimes. She is the most interesting person, knowing someone like that in real life would be a blessing.

Rewatching "Objects in Space". When Inara said she was leaving, I was hurt. Mal really loved her. Then I remembered the line from Serenity, when Mal sort of confesses his feelings to her... "But you fog things up. You always have. You spin me about."

While I am not one to cry very often the hardest scene for me to watch is the opener for out of gas. the still images of Serenity, dead in space, empty on the inside, then the Captain falling to the floor badly wounded just tear me to pieces. The more and more i watch the shows or the movie, the more I love the verse, and the more I love it, the harder it is to see those images.

I discovered the show after it came on DVD, but only about 5 months before BDM. I think out of gas, as a whole was oddly prophetic about fox tried to kill the show, but how the fans love for the show resulted in its continuation as a movie.

"love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down"-Mal

I believe that Firefly, because of its depth, is one of those shows that we will all pass on to our kids, it will be known as a classic, and will be with us till we die.

Salesman: Yup. Real beauty, ain't she? Yes sir.
(The rocket-shaped vessel that the salesman is trying to sell Mal comes into view.)
Salesman: Tell you what. You buy this ship - treat her proper - she'll be with you for the rest of your life.
(But Mal has his attention caught by something else.)
Salesman: Son? Hey, son?
(As we follow Mal's point of view, we see a battered old Firefly, someday to become "Serenity," sitting on the other side of the lot.)

"Storm's getting worse."

The finals in OoG, The Message and Safe were pretty tough on me, but realy the end of OiS had me weeping ; not so much because it meant the end of something great, but more so because it gave the impression that these people had finaly "bonded" and would keep flying, united, as one big happy family

And I realy don't give a good gorram 'bout what happened next, canon-wise. In my mind, Josh Whedon's Firefly *ended* after
OiS. But it *ended* in a very open "and they lived not so happily for some time after"-type of way. Like if from that point on we were free to make the 'Verse our own, as if Josh himself had handed us a pen and a few stacks of paper saying "There you go!"

Oh and the BDM was great, but it realy was set on a different level of reality as far as I'm concerned. For that reason I tend to think of Firefly and Serenity as of two distinct, though intricately connected, story lines. And I Love Serenity just as much! And I love the direction it sends us on! It's just that, as I said, it never felt much like Firefly to me... Which doesn't mean it didn't sweep me off my feet, 'cause it did

Oh man i went way off topic... Oh well, what can I say, I got carried away! So yeah, Out of Gas, The Message, Safe, and especially OiS, that open ending just always gets me

i too find there is moment in every episode that does it for me. but i find the moments are most powerful when supported by the score - both in the series and in the movie.

they really lucked out. both composers were totally brilliant. what stand out the most in my mind right now are:

the entire "love" pc starting with Wash's funeral and right when the violins start to quietly lift during River's monologue - in OiS - telling Jubal Early that she will go with him.

My cartridge fell out of my gun...

I totaly agree. And I can't get enough of those soundtracks. The BDM's OS is one of the top three soundtracks I've ever heard. The Funeral~Love part is sheer wonder. It would bring tears to a British Royal guard. Oh, and the Serenity anthem, with it's follow up Going For A Ride, just make me shiver with excitement.

Another strong score moment I can think of is from Bushwhacked, when Simon and River are hiding on the outside of the ship. The music in this scene just fills me with love for these two outcasts. And from this scene on... Well, that's where it all started for me, I guess. I'm having a tough time explaining it coherently, but it moved me. Deeply

yes, MOBBEX! Those are GREAT moments :0)

Also, anytime River's theme (with that achingly beautiful, but somewhat broken piano) starts to play, i get all teary eyed. Such wonderful attention to detail in all the music cues. I play the BDM soundrack in the car a lot and i can picture every single moment that each note was meant for. Just awesome, makes your hair stand.

One more wonderfully tear-jerking moment - SAFE: Simon holds River and simply says, "Light it."

The two scenes that still consistently get me teary are:

At the end of Safe, when Simon steps up beside River and says "Light it."

The other scene is at the end of Out of Gas where Mal looks at the rest of the crew and says
"Are y'all gonna be here when I wake up?" because I get that he is worried for a second that this is a dream he is having while he is dying.

There are other moments as well, but these are the two main ones. I think it's a real testament to everyone involved in the show that it can have this much impact after having watched those scenes so many times.

Thank you

I'm newish here and am so moved by how much everyone in the community shares my love for the show. Folks "get me" here. It's just cool.

Another moment i thought of:

In Objects: River hears Mal's subconscious say, "none of it means a damn thing..."

how our Nathan can cram so much heart and so much meaning in one phrase is remarkable. that catch in his voice is heartbreaking...

gotta be The Message... For all the reasons everyone else has already listed above, and also because I can't help but think about one of my "crew" that passed on not too long after I lent her my Firefly set. Good night, Laura, wherever you are....

"Out of Gas" did it for me with Mal's "Everybody dies alone" line and his determination to stay with Serenity to the bitter end.

The Pilot, the scene where Kaylee is in the infirmary. There is a brief shot, don't recall any dialogue, shot from outside infirmary walls, and Jayne is crouched outside but next to a portal looking in. Everybody else is inside with Kaylee.

Definitely the end of "The Message"- partly because I knew it was the last show they filmed, and then Tracy's quote of "If you can't walk..." fits soooo well.
