Hey all,

A friend of mine told me that the order of the episodes is still wrong on the DVD. I always though Joss put the episodes in the correct order on the DVD because FOX messed the order up so much. Does anyone know of a post or a website that says that the episodes are in the correct order. Or was this something that was said on the DVDs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

This question has been asked lotsa times before, but I'll explain it to you anyways.

FOX aired the episodes extrememly incorrectly. The airdates are on the DVD cases, so you should be able to see that yourself. Serenity aired last, so obviously you should not watch in this order.

Next is the actual production order, which is what your friend probably believes is correct. If you watched the eps in the order they were made, then the last four would be Heart of Gold, Objects in Space, Trash, and The Message. Watching this is okay, and was the way they were watched in full run abroad, but Joss has stated this is not how he wants them to be seen.

The order generally agreed on as correct, and organized by Joss himself, is the order the DVDs are in now. The last four eps in this sequence are Trash, The Message, Heart of Gold, and Objects in Space. There are a few little things people have pointed out that may or may not show the episodes were orgininally meant to be shown as filmed, and don't exactly fit this way, but I personally think Jayne's "mind reading genius" line and Inara's hair style don't prove a thing. This is the way Joss wants them to be seen, and I think Objects in Space ends the series on the best note possible.

EMBERS

I think if Joss had been able to make a full season of 22 episodes then he may have shown them in the order of production,
but since he had the rug pulled out from under him without any warning at all, without any chance to tie up loss ends or resolve any plot threads, then it just makes sense that he would want to show the episodes in the order in which there were the most satisfying for him.

Objects in Space is the episode which answers quite a few questions about River and shows her as fully accepted by the crew (with that beautiful last shot when she slides into Mal's arms)... It makes for a really beautiful and uplifting story arc, of a sort.

I just want to add to what the others have pointed out...

I found an artical from around the time the DVD's were released where Joss say's something about the order:

Quote:

"This show is so much a part of me and my life and my emotions," Whedon said. "I care as much about `Firefly' as anything I've ever created, and to know that anybody can go to a store and pick it up and see what I think is some of the most compelling stuff I've ever done is wonderful. It's not lost; it's not stillborn; it exists.

"I want them to see it the way it was meant to be seen: wide-screen, in the correct order. To know they'll have that opportunity means everything to me."
