LADYSAGE

The very first moment? Well, to answer that I have to go back and say that I tried and tried to follow this show on TV when [the network that shall not be named] kept moving it all over their schedule. That being said, I did catch The Train Job and found it entertaining. I sort of knew and liked some of the actors so I tuned in and stayed with it.

As for the moment when I knew I was in love with the show...as Mal, Jayne and Zoe are playing Chinese Checkers in the corner of the bar on U-day in The Train Job, we hear Mal say, "I like to live on the edge." Then Zoe jumps all of his marbles and he says, "given some thought of movin' off the edge..."

...and bang! That's when I knew this show had a great combo of humor and danger -- even though the thrillin' heroics hadn't even started yet.

Of course, later it was both the wonderful music and the relationships of Serenity's inhabitants that sealed the deal for me. Irresistible.

:-)

MOSTLYHARMLESS

I'm in the middle of going through the dvd set for the first time, and absolutely amazed with the quality of this show. Having the benefit of seeing each episode for the first time i'm definitely discovering certain moments that just completely draw me in. Today just saw Our Mrs. Reynolds, and the whole sequence that leads up to Mal alone with Saffron and saying, "i'm going to Special Hell." was just utterly classic

Well seeing as it was the first ep i ever saw i'd go for 'our mrs Reynolds' and the moment would of course be Book with his special hell for child molesters and people who talk at the theatre.

I never saw the show when it was aired. I took a chance and bought the DVD set when I saw it on sale, mainly because it looked like my kind of thing and it was by Joss Whedon - luckily I was right!

I fell in love with the show at the pilot: Mal's face as he watched the Alliance ships tearing their laser fire into Serenity valley, and the utter despair on his face. It's a haunting moment.

There are so many fantastic moments in the show, but that was the point where I sat up and put down the other tasks I was doing while watching.

Ri shao gou shi bing!

TXBROWNCOAT

Hi All, (Another New Guy Here!!!)

I have to start off with an apoligy for all the Browncoats that have had to hold the line for all these years without me. I've always been a SciFi fan, but never watched FF till about two months ago. I was in BestBuy contemplating buying yet another glossed over season of Star Trek when the FF series caught me eye. HMM I thought, let's give it a shot, a bunch of space cowboys, it must have everything a Texan needs, horses, guns, and spaceships, does it get any better. I DON'T THINK SO. Now that I'm hooked I felt the need, no the duty to join your ranks and throw my cowboy hat in the ring and help ya'll hold the line and get the BDM2 made.

As for the seen that really, really got me hooked, not that the whole darn thing isn't great. But, I think the scene that really hit home for me was in "Out of Gas" the very last seen when Mal's still shopping for a ship and the salesman's telling him this ship will be with you till the day you die, and Mal turns around and there she is sitting atop a near by hill, SERENITY. It doesn't type out as well as the scene is shot. But, you can almost see the relief on Mal's face, like he had finally found his home or better yet his self. (Or, maybe it was just relief that he had finally found a ship with a bathroom, opps turtle head, I'll let ya'll be the judge.)

Well, once again, glad to be here.

Tex

FREELANCERTEX

The first moment of the first episode. And every moment afterward. I think the actual deciding moment though was when dad and I were watching the sci-fi channel and we saw a commercial for the show *this was just about a year ago* and Mal had said "If somebody tries to kill you, you try and kill them right back." We didn't end up seeing any of the episodes (dad and his sports @_@), but one of the guys in my shop got to talking about the movie (fellow browncoat) and he was kind enough to lend me the series. I now own my own copy :D

Saw the episodes after the movie. In War Stories, when River shoots the 3 guys with eyes closed.

WHENYOUCANTWALK

Well, I just joined about 2 minutes ago, and I'm beginning to think that I joined for the exclusive reason of replying to this board.
I am 16 years old, and I had heard nothing about Firefly or anything else during it's short run on FOX. It wasn't until the movie came out that I actually recognized its existence through some witty trailer. But I didn't go see it. I wasn't a fan of sci-fi flicks, and that's all that it looked like.
Well, come Christmastime about two or three years ago, my sister decides to get me a movie by the name of Serenity. I am less than ecstatic, mostly because I know nothing about the movie. But eventually I decide to watch it. And at first, I'm freaked out by all the reaver stuff. Not a big fan of blood. But once I finally got over the fact that blood is, in fact, inside the human body, I found out that, hey, this is a pretty good movie. I am still oblivious to the fact that there is an entire show that happened before this, and I don't look for much information about it which would alert me to this. I hadn't been hooked yet. But give me another year, and I see all of the characters of the movie, except they're on television, and on the sci-fi channel. I had never really been an avid watcher sci-fi channel, and am not even sure why I turned to it. But I did, and I found myself watching Heart of Gold. My interest is peaqued. So I decided to look more into it. And I can't find it again on the television, so I decide to get the boxed set, and pray that my forty bucks wasn't wasted.

Now, all that ramble that most of you probably skipped over leads to this: I popped the DVD in, turned it on, and pushed play on the first episode, titled Serenity. And Sergeant Malcolm Reynolds kisses the cross hanging around his neck. That was my selling point. I had memories in my head of a man so devoid of faith, and yet here he was, and he seems filled with it. And I wondered how it is that this man, so full of life and faith, became the man he is during most of the movie. I suddenly became so attached to him that I wanted to know his story. From there it was only a matter of time until I fell in love with the rest of the crew, and then Serenity herself.

"We've done the impossible and that makes us mighty."

About kissin the cross, I'm tryin to forget that part.

However, earliest 'I love this show' memories lie somewhere between the ".... curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal." line and Mal on the twin .50's, (in the dark), followed closely by the.....we are too pretty to die comment.

Is it just me or does it seem based on the subject, this thread could just about go on indefinitely? :-)

Mal's expression in the scrapyard when he first see's Serenity says it all.
