I finally got around to conjuring where else I had seen some of the other actors from Serenity and Firefly.

From Safe, the Patron was played by the actor who was also the Jag owner in Pay It Forward, another film I really liked.

From Shindig, Murphy the older gentleman who saved KayLee from the rudeness of Banning. He was Dash Riprock. Plus his first movie was alongside Jeffery Hunter, James Best, and Raymond Massey. Among many other roles. (Larry Pennell).

Who were your favorite other castings?

In Ariel, the doctor who stops Mal and Zoe played the dad on 'Even Stevens' on the Disney channel. I just got a kick out of that.

Also, Nandy from Heart of Gold was Julie on the OC, and in some other TV show episode I randomly caught recently, prompting me to think 'she's in everything!' Plus, it was weird to think of her as good when in the OC she's totally evil.

Gregg Henry, who played the sheriff in "The Train Job", has been mostly a bad guy in hundreds of movies and TV series. Payback, with Mel Gibson and also a villain in Body Double years back.

JewelStaitefan this is the kind of thread I like. Love seeing actors and actresses from shows like FF on other television shows and movies.

You’ve mentioned James Best in your above post. Well the young mudder that idolized Jayne in the “Jaynestown” eps is named Daniel Best, if I remember correctly. Would that happen to be JB’s son?

Also the actor that plays Stitch Hession in that same eps had a small part in a “Smallville” episode (don’t remember his name off hand) one of three hoods who take papa Luther and superboys mom captive at a Luther Corp. high rise building in Metropolis.

Anyway I’ve seen Jubal Early on L&O and also the woman that plays Simon and Rivers mother too. It’s really fun to see these folk in other parts. I may be wrong but maybe they all enjoyed their brief moments on FF/Serenity. The show just seems to have been a great place to work and be a part of even when the camera wasn’t rolling.

My favorites:
Nandi (Melinda Clarke) also played Lady Heather in 4 CSI episodes. Lady Heather is a dominatrix who runs a fetish house of pain. Hmm, another head-of-household role... Interesting how she's been cast as a sex worker at least twice.

Of course Badger (Mark Sheppard) played a lawyer on BSG last season.

And then there's Commander Harken (Doug Savant), who is currently Tom Scavo on Desperate Housewives, a little show that Nathan Fillion is currently guest starring on. Interesting how those 2 have crossed paths! First Doug guest stars on Nathan's show, now Nathan guest stars on Doug's show...

Plus I swear I just saw one of the Blue Hands somewhere, but I forget which show...

I'd rather be a smartass than a dumbass...

And of course, Young Simon ((Zack Effron)) was in the devil musical (("High School Musical" if you're fortunate enough not to have any contact with tweenaged girls in the last year or so.)).

Little River was in 24 I think.

I saw a trailor for a film ages ago that had a tranny in it and I thought that the tranny looked familiar. Then I suddenly realised "That's the freakin' Operative from Serenity!" Never did watch that film, I don't think I'd have been able to take the Operative seriously in Serenity anymore if I had.

Chiwetel Ejiofor's role in "Kinky Boots"
which is supposed to be a good film.
Not that we want to spoil your enjoyment

I had immediately recognized Gregg Henry, and thought it was fnatastic that he was playing a good guy (although largely an antagonist) in the 2nd Pilot, the first broadcast episode. I recalled him from Body Double, Payback, Black Dahlia, and gobs of TV I've caught over the years - don't catch much TV now. I also notice he's in Slither, which is on my list of flicks to see or buy.
I had also recognized Jubal Early, mostly strongly from L&O which I catch in rerun form, but I also enjoyed The Crow II, and The Hidden.
Melinda Clarke was easy for me since Mullholland Falls is one of my fave flicks (fantastic cast), and she was part of the tremendous cast of The District.
I did know Efron was supposed to be the BF of Vanessa Hudgens.

Dash Riprock, however, wasn't as easy for me, so I had to look it up (haven't seen Beverly Hillbillies in a while). And it really irritated me that I couldn't place The Patron, since I knew it was from a role in a work that I really enjoyed.

Although I don't know many of the other references, I really like that you others can catch them, and to see how wonderful the castings were for the show.

Daniel Bess was a mudder on Jaynestown. James Best was a veteran probably best known as Roscoe P Coltrane, Sheriff on Dukes of Hazzard. Jeffrey Hunter was, of course, Capt Christopher Pike, original Captain of Enterprise.

I haven't watched Buffy or Angel, but I noticed that Michael Nagy was in those as well as
Ariel. Don't recall if that was mentioned.
I had recognized kevin Gage from Blow and GI Jane.
I did recognized Crow (kicked into the engine) from Any Given Sunday, and Necessary Roughness, but didn't place him as Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003, 2006).

It took me quite a while to figure out what you mean by "tranny" - I was trying to think how Chewie Ejiofor could have played a transmission! I don't think I like the term much. Anyway, you should do a Chiwetel Ejiofor Film Fest some weekend. He is really a fine young actor and has been getting some excellent exposure in recent years. Here is a suggested viewing list:

Children of Men (in which he plays a member of an underground revolutionary movement, very intense, a great movie all around).
Four Brothers (in which he plays an American gangster so nasty you just want to chuck him off a cliff).
Dirty Pretty Things (in which he plays an illegal immigrant worker in a hotel who is trying to solve a murder while not being deported). Sophie Okonedo and Audrey Tatou costar. Excellent film, and he makes a protagonist every bit as sympathetic as his antagonist in Four Brothers is horrid.
Kinky Boots. Watch this one last, after you have seen CE in those other roles, and prepare to be absolutely amazed by his abilities. (Oh, and you get to see Nick Frost in this one. An added bonus.)

I don't know what the actor thinks about his role in Serenity. I think he is very professional about each role he plays. He has a very promising future if he doesn't burn himself out (he has been working extremely hard).

REGINAROADIE

The guy that played the mudder that took Stitch's bullet for Jayne was the same guy that played Rick on Day 1 of 24.

It's weird. So many actors that were on FIREFLY have shown up on 24 for either small parts that last a few episodes, or are recurring characters. Sometimes you know them for sure. Like when I saw Richard Burgi on FIREFLY or DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, I immediately recalled him as Alan York/Kevin Carroll from Day 1 and how seriously creepy he was. And Doug Savant had a small part in Day 3 as the manager of the Chandler Plaza where the virus was released. If Nathan can squeeze in one small bit on the show before it ends, then there would be three actors that have worked on 24/FIREFLY/DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

But some just completely disappear into their roles and you don't notice at all. Like when Greg Itzin shows up on the series as John Logan, I had completely forgotten about him as Magistrate Higgins in "Jaynestown." Same with Gina. Comparing her role on FIREFLY to the role she played on 24, it's literally day and night.

Also, if you're wondering where you've seen one of the Blue Handed guys before, one of them was actually the first guy you ever saw on the first day of 24. He was the agent in Kuala Lumpar (sp?)who sent the valuable intel on who was the target for that day before getting killed. So he was a minor good guy before coming a famous bad guy.

I guess "spot the FIREFLY actor" is one of my favorite games to play when watching 24.

It's a shame that I haven't seen William Converse-Roberts (aka. Gabriel Tam) in anything lately. Anyone who created so much speculation and mystery in his role for an entire fanbase deserves something of a career. I checked his imdb profile, and FIREFLY seems to be at the tail end of his career. That alongside a guest stint on ROBBERY HOMICIDE DIVISION. I'm not sure if he died or just stopped doing TV and stick primarily with stage acting.

Oh, and I refuse to see HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, along with THE NOTEBOOK and HANNAH MONTANA. You would have to strap me into a Clockwork Orange like torture chair in a straight jacket with my eyelids held open with someone administering eyedrops to make me watch that.

Jeffrey Hunter was married to 50's sci-fi B-movie goddess Barbara Rush.

I recognized Richard Burgi as the title role of The Sentinel, major good guy. Plus nasty guy in Hostel II. If you've seen The Sentinel, you know why he MUST be a guy who hunts down River, which is largely the female version of his Sentinel.

If in possesion of The Notebook, at least skip to the worthwhile nekid parts. But I really liked the whole thing.

While covering the major Geust Stars, Larry Drake was the bad guy in Darkman, and the retarded guy on L.A. Law was his breakthrough role. He was the sash guy in Shindig.

Atherton Wing was in Man in the Iron Mask.

Chewie in Kinky boots was amazing. He really impressed me with that movie...Of course I was already enthralled by his performance as the Operative in the BDM. He's become one of the 'second wave' of BDHs in my opinion ((Along with Mr. Universe and his Lovebot)).

Yeah, Ray kinsella's dad. One of my fave hilarious movies was Mom adn Dad Save the World, and Dwier played the super stupid son of the captive king (Eric Idle) and sister of Kathy Ireland. I think Dwier had the lines regarding the devious nature of the Light Grenades.

I absolutley loved him in Kinky Boots. I wonder if that was his voiced or if he lip synched. Anyway, I'll never look at a pair of over the knee boots the same way again.

I think he's in American Gangster also as the brother to Frank Lucas. He certainly is a man of many talents.

Also, Gregg Henry was in Slither with Nathan. He played the foul mouthed mayor and was sooo funny. Just see his Mr. Pibb rant in the back seat of the squad car !

Mark Shepard was in a short lived tv show I liked, called Soldier of Fortune(?), he played a demolitions merc. And he playes a creepy dead doctor on Medium, who likes to cut teenage girls, but since he's dead he has to "talk" other doctor's into doing it.
Adam was in Independance Day, he's the Air Force major who guides the group around, and also shoots the alien when he attacks the prez.

He is indeed, NCB and does an excellent job!
He's of the same caliber as Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe for sure.

Mark Shepherd has been on X-Files as well as BSG and his turn on BSG is one of my all time favorite acting stints. Amazing performance.

Christina Hendricks is currently starring on Mad Men and is guest starring on Life.

Doesn't Mark Shepherd have a part on Bionic Woman?

Patience (from the Serenity pilot) was Tim Allens mom in Tool Time.

Mark Sheppard guest starred on Voyager as one of the Borg children's parents. They created Echeb as a Borg virus. He does a pretty good American accent. In fact only when I saw him on Firefly (and realized he was the same guy) did I really know his American accent wasn't real.

Dobson I think if I remember right, was playing someone who tried to be Gerry's friend. I may be getting it wrong, been a while since I saw that episode.

I can't believe that was the man who played Dash Riprock. He was so cute in Beverly Hillbillies. Nice to see him again.

I'll have to think where I saw the others. Good call everyone.

Oh wait. Edit:Edit:

Mr Universe played Wednesday's love interest in the second Adam's Family movie, "Adam's Family Values." He Wednesday and Pugsly were singled out and made to spend the whole day and night watching a lot of Disney movies.

Can't say for cute, but I thought he was dashing in both, hence fitting the name Dash Riprock. I really did enjoy seeing him again, as well as the asctor playing The Patron, although it could have been a more positive part like in Pay It Forward.

Sarah Paulson (aka "Young Miss") from Serenity was in "What Women Want," she was the secretary (i KNEW i'd seen her somewhere)

It is Clause and it is not really a pun. The Santa Clause is the contractual requirement which requires Tim to become Santa whether he wants to be or not. More like dual meaning.

But think about the word "Nothing" in "Much Ado About Nothing." In that play, the word 'nothing' is a pun on noting (as my teacher taught it), so in this case the word 'clause' is kind of a pun on his name, is it not? makes sense what you said though. :)

Hey, I just noticed Morena Baccarin (Inara) is in the new SG-1 movie I saw today, The Ark of Truth, looking hotter than ever before! :)

Yeah, same chick. :) Ardra or some such. Very hot. Well, a contributing factor to that: she was busy getting herself lit on fire. It happens. :) No, seriously, she's constantly enshrouded in flames, but she really does look stunning.

And yeah, it ain't in the theatre yet; and if it were, I'd be careful not to talk! :) It was a promo screener: a notch or so under DVD quality, but 'twas well worth the watch.

Oh, and Major Carter was in it, too; and Jewel ain't wrong: she really IS a spottie!

I love Major Carter, she's great XD course she's a full-bird Colonel now, (well, on SG Atlantis anyway, saw an ep the other day, i still call her major carter). is she a major in the movie?

Just saw Deep Impact again over the weekend. Noticed that our Patron was not oly who I recognized from Pay it Forward, but was also Chuck in Deep Impact, playing the dad of Leelee Sobieski and the husband of Denise Crosby.

SLOWHAND

The actor that played Rance Burgess in Heart of Gold was in the first episode of Lost. He was the wounded marshall in the tent that had to be shot to be put out of his misery. He also played a lawyer in an episode of Boston Legal.
