My favorite scene is the Hero Of Canton scene from Jaynestown. For me, it has it all going on .... the singer in his funny hat, the young mudder who worships Jayne groovin' along to it, and even the bartender singing along in the chorus, not to mention the hysterical reactions of the crew.

Our Mrs. Reynolds - in the cargo bay, first scene after the credits when Mal and Saffron discuss the *situation* and the crew rolls in to comment, etc. The writing and the actor's deliveries/rhythm - amazing. The up and down from the funny "how much did I drink last night?" "I dunno, I passed out." to the serious, "She and I are the only ones who don't think this is funny." As good as it gets.

The final scene in Ariel. Gritty and intense. It was an instant insight into the character of the captain. Ariel was the first episode I ever saw, and this scene convinced me that this show was different. Later, after watching the rest of the series (and realizing what a buffoon Jayne is) I found myself wishing the captain has left the hatch open.

There are two. I can not decide which is my favorite so here are both.

Jayne looking through the glass in the airlock door saying, "Don't tell them the truth."

And another Jayne moment when he is in front of the Mudders and says. "You think someone is just gonna drop money on ya?"

Can you guess Jayne is my favorite character.

Difficult question, there are many, but...today:

River dancing with the young man, in Safe, with Simon watching, the look on his face when he sees his sister happy and giddy is like they say "priceless".

Again from Safe: Simon's reaction, after he has been kidnapped, to the conditions in the hospital and his leap in to action as the skilled and caring doctor.

And, of course, my favorite Mal and Inara scene of the day would be the last scene of them in OiS, when he touches her face with genuine concern. It's not quite Captiany. It's not the Brigand, or the affectionate older brother. The pretences are off, it's just Mal and for a nano second we see that tender side he keeps very well hidden.

I can't say if it is may favorite scene, but it's the one that made me say "yup, this is a great show". It is in the pilot when Mal walks onto Serenity and shoots the Fed (can't remember his name) right in the head, without a moments pause, or mercy. He was a problem that they didn't have time for, so instead of talking it out, Mal took care of it.

Oh, just thought of another one, same episode, at the end when Book tells Inara that he is on the wrong ship.

KAYNA

I love my captain

There are two.

The end of OoG.
"Y'all gonna be here when I wake up?"
"We'll be right here."
"Good. That's good."
Mal's ship is empty without his crew.

And the scene in OiS when Mal and River are outside the ship. I believe it is the only time in the show when my two characters actually talk to each other. The first time Mal treats River as a whole person.

RIVERFLAN

Don't remember exactly which episode, with Jayne and Wash talking, and Jayne says "She's in Congress?". And there's also the infamous
"We live on a spaceship, dear"
"So?"
exchange. Of course, I also really like River's communing with the cows, which ends in Mal saying "Is it bad that what she's saying makes perfect sense to me?"

I can just go on and on (as I'm sure you're noticing ) Truth to tell, I don't think I can isolate just one episode to be the best. This saying could have been said with Firefly in mind: The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.

SHAMROCK

Mine is probably, from the first episode. Infact, I have a couple from that episode.

1) When you see the Browncoats lose the war. Mal's face is just stricken in awe. He can't believe the loss they just have faced. Seeing the ships come in, knowing they're "humped" as Wash would say. (RIP <3)

2) When Simon is introducing himself and his sister to the crew. Where he says "I am very smart. Gifted, I believe, is the term." Where's he's talking about River, showing all the scenes of him showing her around, giving her medicine. His entire monologue is very believable and very well done.

(I love Simon, so much, but that scene is EXCELLENT.)

MASTERBATES

First post!

I have a bit of trouble choosing just one, but if I absolutely have to, it's the title sequence for the BDM (okay, so it's not technically the series, but still). After living Firefly-less for three years, seeing the old girl again - accompanied by that gorram awesome music - was frickin' amazing. I'm not sure why - there's no dialogue, action, or anything other than a ship entering atmo, but for reasons I can't quite put into words it is one of my favorite TV or movie moments of all time.

TWILIGHTSEEKER

I agree that is is VERY hard to pick just one favorite scene and love all the scenes already mentioned the dance in Safe....the confrontation between Mal and Jayne at the end of Ariel, I also love the conversation between Jayne, Mal and the bandits at the beginning of Our Ms Reynolds but I think for me the most poignant scene comes near the end of Safe when realizing he can not save River from the crowd he joins her on the platform, places his arms around her and says "Light it" followed of course, by the BDH scene where Mal announces "Yeah, but she is OUR witch so cut her the hell down." This scene shows so much...it shows Simon's total willingness to protect River even past life its self and that even though their own father deserted them...Mal never will

OiS, starting with River's V.O. soliloquy. She's got a plan to defeat Jubal Early, but it's more than that. When she tells him that she'll be his bounty, and that: "Everyone can just go on without me, and not have to worry," you can tell she means it, that despite speaking to Jubal because it's part of her plan, she's also speakng to the crew.

Her words are coming from her heart, her voice on the edge of cracking (but not cracking). And while technically her floating down to Mal is another scene, to me it is really the close of the scene started with her soliloquy. She is coming down to Mal, down to Serenity, down to the ship (the home) and the people she loves.

She is in a space suit and helmet, her face obscured by shadow, and yet her joy radiate through: silent, a iron-core snowflake glowing and floating through space, until her fingertips touch those of Mal.

Damn scene makes me cry every time I see it.

I just discovere this show on January 19, and watched all 14 episodes in 3 days. That scene is my favorite, not only of Firefly, but of any television program ever.

Wow good question. I have two both involving Inara.

1) The scene where she finds Mal unconscious on the floor. Her voice cracks just the right amount to convey her desperation. Plus I love the finalé to that seen where she says 'No I'm ok I'm comfy' :)

2) When she breaks down crying in heart of gold. Rips me apart everytime I see it.

By the way everyone's favourite is good! Lets face it all the scenes are wonderful.

It took three days because I didn't even set out to watch Firefly! I started with T:TSCC (downloaded the pilot from iTunes on Jan 19, then bought the second right after the first), and that led me to Firefly! So I had to squeeze 3 episodes of T:TSCC (the third aired the following Monday) in between devouring every scrap of Firefly/Serenity ever made.

I'm sure I could have shaved a day off of my time, had I skipped T:TSCC. Then again, I wouldn't be here, if not for that.

My favorite scene would have to be from the BDM. Towards the end when Mal passes Inara in the hall.

Mal: Ready to get off this heap, back to civilized life?

Inara: I don't know.

Mal: Good answer.

Its the first time the two have both let their guards down at the same time. I also think that it's the best I've seen Inara look. She is not wearing as much make up and her natural beauty is shining through.

Simon: What if he(Mal) tells you to kill me?
Zoe: (without hesitation) I kill you.

Love all the episodes, so many great quotes. Favorite episode (not by much) is Ariel, but my favorite quote comes at the end of Out of Gas when Mal is laid out on the medical table. "Yall still be here when I wake up?" Cuts right through Mal's tough exterior and demonstrates his emotional need for the crew, his family.

Mine has be from Ariel (I think) after Jayne has been double crossed by the feds for turning River and Simon in. Their escape scene is my favourite. In particular the scene where Jayne is frantically trying to smash the locked door open.

Mal shoots the lock open from the other side of the door and with only two movements of his head he saves a load of dialogue.

I love this show and have only just discovered it. I watched Serenity last weekend then sought out the series and have watched it all now. I will re-watch it as I am sure there are lots of details I have missed.

Gorram FOX should be shot for not letting this series run for the seven series planned. This is the best Sci-Fi adventure show I have ever seen.

That would be Nandi, and although not generally regarded as one of the best episodes by most Browncoats, I personally find much to like about it, puting it in my top 5 of the 14 episodes. The scene you refer to from the BDM was a bit confusing for me....if Mal wished she wasn't there, then why go get her in the first place... although it is an excellent example of Mal's mixed emotions towards Inara.

When I think of my favorite scenes, I tend to think in snippets that reveal so much.

When Mal kisses the crucifix, in the pilot during the battle of Serenity Valley, just before going out to fight...

When Kaylee gently pats the wall of the engine room in the pilot and whispers "That's my girl."

Sheppard Book bringing Inara dinner, and offering up sermons he could give her instead of food.

Rivers quintessential line "No power in the 'verse can stop me" in "War Stories."

Kalee talking about ships and engines during the party in Shindig.

Inara calling Saffron "A big baby" as she closes the trash container in "Trash."

There are many more, but these come to mind.

Keep Flying!

I'd have to say one of my favorites is from the movie; when Simon's cleaning up the blood off River after the bar fight, he mentions that she said "Miranda" and asks her what that means.

She has been kind of rambling on in that scene and says something to the effect of "Ask her,". Simon pauses for a moment and goes, "Am I talking to Miranda now?"

River stares at him like he's insane.

I think that's great considering how often River rambles on and makes almost no sense.

Yeah that's what makes the scene work for me....obviously Mal reacts with his heart when she asks for help. Even though he knows it's a trap, he won't pass up a chance to see her. But when she gets there, he realizes that when she's around , he's all mixed up with emotions toward her which he knows messes with his ability to be the cold, calculating captain he so loves being in front of everyone but her.

Although Mal obviously loves her, I always go away with the impression after the end of the movie that Mal will eventually end up with Zoe instead...a woman who he loves just as much (maybe more) but who never "spins him about".

BTW, I'm no huge fan of that episode either, too many social issues (why does a prostitute "deserve" the baby any more than the bad guy, who is obviously better situated to give the baby a good life. Not to mention the sheer irresponsibility of a prostitute having unprotected sex). Smacks of current female ideology that women "create" life by themselves.

THEJACKAL

BOTH ARE FROM OUT OF GAS

NUMBER ONE
Mal: You know, I'm gettin' a little weary of this attitude, Wash.
Wash: Oh, are you? Well, I'm so very sorry, sir. I guess the news that we're all gonna be purple and bloated and fetal in a few hours has made me a little snippy.
Mal: It's possible someone might pick up that signal.
Wash: No, Mal. It's not possible. No one's gonna pick up the damn signal. You wanted us flying under the radar, remember? Well, that's where we are, out of range of anyone or anything.
Mal: Then make it go further.
Wash: I - What?
Mal: Make the signal go further.
Wash: Can't make it go further.
Mal: Not if all you're gonna do is sit around here and whinge about it. No.
Wash: What do you expect me to do, Mal?
Mal: Whatever you have to. And if you can't do it from here, then get a suit on and go outside on the side of the boat...
Wash: And what? Wave my arms around?
Mal: Wave your arms around. Jump up and down. Divert the nav sats to the transmitter. Whatever.
Wash: Divert the - Right! Because teenage pranks are fun when you're about to die!
Mal: Give the beacon a boost, wouldn't it?
Wash: Yes, Mal, it would boost the signal. But even if some passerby did happen to receive, all it would do is muck up their navigation.
Mal: Could be that's true.
Wash: Damn right, it's true. They'd be forced to stop and dig out our signal before they could even go anyplace.
[Beat, Mal waits for Wash to get it]
Wash: [Still yelling as if he's angry] Well maybe I should do that, then!
Mal: Maybe you should!
Wash: Okay!
Mal: Good!
Wash: Fine!
Jayne: Hey! What you two think you're doing? Fightin' at a time like this? You'll use up all the air.

NUMBER TWO
Mal: I thought I ordered you all off the ship. I call you back?
Hoban 'Wash' Washburne: No, Mal, you didn't.
Zoë Washburne: I take full responsibility, Cap'n.
Dr. Simon Tam: The decision saved your life.
Zoë Washburne: Won't happen again, sir.
Mal: Good. And, thanks, I'm grateful.
Zoë Washburne: It was my pleasure, sir.
Mal: [jerking himself awake] You all gonna be here when I wake up?
Shepherd Book: We'll be here.
Mal: Good. That's good.
