Hey everyone. I was watching, "Our Mrs Reynolds" recently, and I closed my eyes for a bit and listened to the music and I realised that it sounded an awful lot like a minorly-altered Pachelbel's Canon (In D Major).

I am not a major classical music fan, but that music sounds and awful lot like the various mp3s I have of it...

So, is this the lazy score creator or is it a sign of how such songs have continued to be used for celebrations, much as how pistols are still used.

Any opinions on the subject? Has anyone else noticed something similar to this throught Firefly?

I really don't have anything pertinent to say, just that...

I love that music. For most of the music on Firefly I verge from mildly enjoying to severe adversion (Yes. I HATE the themesong.)

But I've always loved that music. I will buy the soundtrack for it. Or whatever I can find it on.

So will somebody answer the man?!

You hate the themesong? Is it because it seems a bit incongruous? Listen to it whilst you sleep...you'll soon learn to love it .

It's my favorite of the Firefly clips, too. I can listen to it far too long, and I find myself humming it a fair bit of the time. It doesn't help that I used it in my Firefly Neverwinter Nights work...

Let me know if we figure this one out - and I'll think about Pachabel's Canon (on the face of it, I agree, but my wife's the one who knows music theory).

I agree, they do sound pretty similar. I know Canon is used a lot at weddings, so maybe it's supposed to allude to how there's actually a wedding going on in that scene. If you want to go farther, then yes, you could chalk it up to today's melody changing a bit but still being used in the future. Good find!

Thanks very much :). I'm doing music GCSE at school - got the exam in three days, so I am in full on music identifying/analysing alert

Basically, I did a fair bit of work assembling the various required custom content for NWN, and created a base rules system using the Traveller rules, then made an introductory module (set a few months after Jaynestown on Higgen's Moon) so that DM's could modify it or make their own modules to run for their players. The idea is to get lots of DM-run campaigns using Firefly as a setting (sell more DVD's!). Besides, I'd like to make my own "episodes" of Firefly while I'm waiting for the movie :)

Here's the link for the module base (runnable by a DM with a group of players!):
http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/modules/data/1080769905000.shtml

That also has the link to our Yahoo group. Better yet, contact us at Neverwinter Connections; we've got a game running soon:

(ask Eliandi for an invitation)
or email me at
kline at researchsupport dot com
if you're interested!

And yes, the Wedding Song is included as one of the options for background music (so is Hero of Canton, which is just great for various scenes).

And I really think you're on to something about Pachabel's Canon - at least in my head, they sound darned close. Sigh...and I LIKED that song, thought it was really original :)

Cool :). I'm a bit of a module creator, so that sounds like a great idea.
