I do not own the Firefly DVD set yet, but I have seen "Serenity," the version that had aired on the Fox network. I was wondering if there were significant differences between the two versions. If so, could someone give a list of all of them? Thanks...

The version of Serenity on the DVD is the same as the version that was aired as the last episode of Firefly on FOX. FOX even aired it in widescreen, if I recall correctly. I suppose you could say the DVD is different because of no commercials, actual fades to black, and the producers names at the end of the ep instead of the ship stencil thingy shown at the end of the ones on TV.

There is also an unaired original version of that Serenity episodes that is quite different that the one aired and shown on the DVD. I believe it is floating around somewhere on the internet.

The unaired version supposedly even have scenes not shown in even in the deleted scenes on the DVD.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Yeah, like the other guy said. There was an approx 40 min rough cut or something, basically a pre pilot to show to people to get an idea for the show, never intended to actually be used for actual TV. It featured a few extra/different scences, and there might be 1 or 2 that weren't in that and just cut at some point. All of the ones I know of are on the DVD however(including 1 I hadn't heard of or seen before)

The unaired pilot that's available online has a running time of just under 80 minutes. It has a slightly different opening narration, alternate scenes, and the background music is also different. You can find it here -

There were some differences, different bits of dialog and scenes that didn't make it to the DVD. Specifically a few of Mal's caustic comments regarding Inara and a different cut of Inara and Book's conversation in her shuttle.

Wow. I never downloaded the "other" 'Serenity'. Glad I did. From Book saying he is a Christian, and the Simon and Zoe conversation about the Battle of Serenity, there is a lot that can be accounted for. As well as other dialog from the part 1.
