Just bit confused as the production numbers and order on the DVDs are different, so whats the best order to watch them in (trying to watch them in the chronilogical order of the firefly universe.)?

Also anyone know if any of the cast is attenting the Canadian National Expo in Toronto?

Pull the titles from a hat. Viewing in a randomised order will best dispell the illusion that there is a definitive order and save you hours of pointless argument. Unless you're 'Tash, in which case I claim my twenty bucks

Isn't that what Fox did?

BLACKOUTNIGHTS

I've used the recommendation from other browncoats for the order during recruiting periods. I've been successful twice...which is 100-percent of the time.

Have to begin with Serenity, no option there. How could the peabrains at FOX opt to go with a script that was written in two days for a pilot episode over a script that took weeks, if not months, to develop? Oh, but then again, we've always got The Swan. Christ, the idiocy is unbelieveable.

Second episode is Out of Gas. The majority of browncoats favorite episode.

From there, I ask the potential new browncoat what they would like to learn more about. River and Simon? If so, then Safe or Ariel are good episodes. The Reavers? It's Bushwhacked! For Inara, there's Shindig or Heart of Gold. Maybe it's Wash and Zoe, in which case we go with War Stories. For more on the War against the Alliance itself there's The Message. Or maybe it's our good friend Jayne Cobb...the Hero of Canton. Perhaps they'd like to learn more about the character of our captain, which I'd recommend Our Mrs. Reynolds (has to come before Trash). The Train Job is good for a romp-em-up. Interestingly, there's not really a defining Kaylee or Book episode. The closest we get to learning more about Book is Safe. My preference for the final episode is Objects in Space.

Anyhow, there's my two cents. Take for what ya will, ya gander? Say thankya. Say Discordia.

Yes, but FOX didn't put all the episodes into the hat.

Serenity
Train Job
Bushwacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Renyolds
Jaynestown
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space

Best thing to do is to stay in order, then you can get the growth of the crew as a crew, but if you decide not to make sure Our Mrs. Renyolds is before Trash and Ariel is before both War Stories and Trash. Heart of Gold works best before Objects in space.

Kaylee: Wash, tell me I'm pretty
Wash: Were I unwed I would take you in a manly fashion
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause you're pretty

GUNRUNNER

Well I would say its best to watch all the eps in the order they are on the DVDs with the exception of The Message being moved to the last spot. It makes more sense in some parts and that final seen is ment to be the end of the series.

Shindig before Safe.
Trainjob before War Stories.

I reckon this order, top to bottom

Or, if you're a maths nerd (as I partially am - at least at the moment mid maths homework), you could try watching them in a Fibonacci sequence...

First, use the DVD order, then watch the following episodes:

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13,
0 is tricky but the rest are achievable. Just a thought.

I reckon the order they're in on the DVD is just fine with me.

The way I've shown 'em to new converts is:

Serenity
The Train Job
Bushwhacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Reynolds
Jaynestown
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space
Trash
The Message

And I don't care what Mr. Tim high-falutin' Minear says about the order, Jayne's comment in "The Message" about River being a mind-reading genius makes no sense if that ep is before "Objects in Space". Additionally, Jayne taking River's threat seriously of "I can kill you with my brain" in "Trash", and the fact that (despite her knowing that he'd sold them out on Ariel) she looked surprised at that insight to him in "Objects in Space".

"Sir, I would like to gingerly point out that it is difficult for someone to be gently reassuring when they're holding three and a half feet of sharpened steel."

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I agree completely with your order, and that is the order in which they're listed in the Episode Guide on this site's Home page.

However, I didn't drop in here to take up bandwidth, & your time, with a "me too", but to say that the best answer to this question appears in a previous thread, which I can't seem to find now. Anyway to summarize it (I hope accurately), DVD order is great for the first ten eps, Trash comes before the Message (just before is best), & Heart o' Gold comes just before Objects In Space. There are problems with DVD order, & problems with the reverse (HoG & Objects In Space before T & Message), but the problems with the latter (hereinafter Fff.n order) are fewer, and appear less troubling to (me &) the author of the post than DVD order.

I learned something from the Virtual Shindigs (Sundays @7pm Greenwich time) http://www.fireflyfans.net/editmsg.asp?b=2&t=8767&m=117511 . To summarize, if I'm watching with commentaries, I'm gonna do it in DVD order.

LIEUTENANT

I just watched some of the episodes in "TV" order, and then I went back and watched "Serenity", and everything started to become clear. I have no idea why Fox would show "Serenity" last. It was building the premise of the entire season!

So I highly recommend staying loyal with the DVD order. Just my 2c.
