I definitely know how you're feeling since his first post in that thread was in direct response to mine. I wasn't around so I sure appreciate you and the other intelligent male and female responses in my absence.

As soon as I got back on I started looking for an "ignore" option, which is common on many newsgroups for these kind of things. Maybe when Haken gets that house built we can petition him for that added option to this shiny board.

Regardless, I swear I will not let the crazy person drive me from such an otherwise cool place!

Maybe, if we just keep posting like this he will get the hint and do the right thing. Of course, after what he did in the other thread, I don't know if he knows what the right thing is. It is unfortunate that some of us guys get into trouble because of the comments that one person makes.

If there was a way to kick him off, I would be all for it. I would even do the throwing out of the trash myself.

we had a really destructive troll posting porno/gross pictures all over this site....

his IP address was identified (his High School I think it was!)
and he was not only banned, he was reported to his school administration (if I remember all this correctly, could be I have a couple of different trolls confused in my mind)...

at any rate, it helps to start a thread like this to make the board mods aware of the problem...

and try not to take it personally. *hug*

I'm sorry you had to experience a Troll firsthand, but something that works quite well with them is to just ignore them.

It's simple psychology: if the troll isn't reinforced (rewarded) for their behavior, they will eventually stop doing the behavior. What will happen when they first get ignored is they will end up being MORE annoying, upping the ante so to speak, because they're not getting the reaction they want. But if people consistently keep ignoring the troll, they'll eventually leave to find someplace else where the people will have a reaction to their idiocy instead of no reaction.

I believe I know which thread you were talking about and Tristan was smart when he said "Ignore, and move to this new thread." If you keep ignoring, he'll go away.

Now there's a good chance that this guy'll be a jerk on this thread too, or even personally attack you or me because of this thread, but just ignore. He's not worth getting upset over. Personally, I just laugh a little on the inside because I find it sadly amusing that people like that are so desperate for attention that they'll go to any means to get it. Sad little idiot in his sad little world.

I think for the most part, the people become angrier, more broken, frustrated, etc . . .

PN is an extreme example, but I think it works here. 50-75% of the time when people disagree with him, he reduces himself to calling other people names or responding with awesomely intelligent epithets like "eat me".

Klan members also come to mind.

Heh, I'm not at all Republican, my point was that the majority isn't always right, and conversely, a minority opinion isn't always wrong. Any time I see someone described as a troll, I always picture them as the troll/Moe combination from the Simpsons's episode with all the fairy tales, leaping out at the children from under the bridge before chiding himself when they run away that he blew it again and probably came across as too desperate. I know I have my short comings and all, and I know that I can occasionally annoy some people because I have the tendency to shoot my mouth off, but I hope I haven’t upset anyone here in this forum. So what if I like a little attention? It’s actually quite harmless.

I don't like being pushed around, and when I make a habit of being annoying, it will be on the subject of racists, bullies, and sexist bastards, and/or some guy or gal trying to push someone around. This I won't tolerate and I will attack.

I'm just saying this so we can all get an understanding about Crazy River's boundaries. If I say something that offends you....tell me. As of late I appear to be more willing to alter my behavior to suit other people. I’m not the best type of social person, so I have to learn.

I hope I’m not included in the list of the people you are all unhappy with and want to ban. This board/forum is my only, form of expression and without it…well, I don’t know what I would do. I guess I would have to go back to bottling things up, and where else could I go to discuss Firefly and Angel????

Well, ever since I started taking this new medication for my moods, I've been experiencing something new....guilt, can you believe that? I think when I was attempting to show the difference between real racism and just someone being funny, I made someone in that thread mad because they thought I was accusing them of being a racist, and then Chris put the zap on my head by asking me why did I want to hurt people? I had to seriously step away from the computer to think about that one.

At least the real, fictional River had the excuse of government scientist messing around with her brain...me, I'm just crazy, but thanks for the understanding which I don't deserve, but appreciate.

I guess that maybe I should read just the topics of the threads and not post...some people shouldn’t post.

I think that everyone does things from time to time that they're not proud of, or that we look back on and wish we could take back. We're human, nobody's perfect. The point is there are those who are willing to admit their mistakes (or who cause offence unintentionally), and there are those that know what they're doing and just keep charging ahead and don't care who they hurt or trample in the process. Those latter types are (IMHO) trolls - and since you apologised and were willing to look at other opinions than just your own, you're clearly not a troll and so do deserve understanding - again, IMHO. I hope this isn't sounding all judgmental etc - I don't mean it to be, I'm just as flawed and imperfect as anyone (maybe more so - I like Episode 1 after all! lol) and have spent more than my fair share of time with my foot planted firmly in my mouth (it pretty much lives there!). I just saw the way you were willing to apologise and I know that not everyone would have been willing to do that, so maybe you've been harder on yourself than you should have been.
