LEMMING

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any chance of updating the Firecasts page.

It is one of the principal links that any new visitor sees and is extremely out of date. Several times I have been asked what "The Signal" is on FFF.net and it seems obvious that the lack of this information there is one reason why.

I have made this request several times now by pm and email over the last year or so and even been told it will be addressed, but I have yet to see anything happen. Hate to carp on about this as FFF.net is a great site, but it's not much to ask surely that podcasts, which are an active and ongoing expansion of the verse and all things Firefly, get a fair exposure? Especially as the link is right there up front and centre.

Yes, I'm an interested party and yes I want folk to be able to link to our podcast, but there's so much other stuff that should be there as well.

Briefly,

The Signal (original and longest running Firefly podcast www.serenityfirefly.com Now in season 5, we've been running since June 2005)

Sending a Wave, the UK centered Firefly podcast ( www.sendingawave.wordpress.com)

Firefly Talk should be there, but is currently inactive (and has been for a while. All the stuff is still available and there may be more shows at some point I hope)

Tales From The Verse (a submissions based fanfic podcast - www.talesfromtheverse.com)

After Serenity (Serenity RPG podcast - www.afterserenity.com )

Echoes From The Black (Serenity MUSH based podcast - http://echoesfromtheblack.podbean.com/ )

Stragely Literal (general Whedon fanfic, but with plenty of Firefly stuff too www.strangelyliteral.com )

Old Wounds (an awesome full series audio drama on Serenity - http://sonic.libsyn.com/index.php?post_category=Firefly )

That should do for starters :-)

Well, I'm not expeciting an instant response :-)

Done that. Several times in the last year or more. Have even exchanged actual emails with Haken where I was asked what I wanted added to the page. (To which I responded more or less as in the opening post to this thread) That was January. *Totally* understand that this is a labour of love and folk have busy lives and that this may not be the highest priority in keeping FFF.net going, but kinda wondering how often I have to ask.

It says to do so, right there on the page.

This isn't just me pushing a podcast I happen to be involved with, there's a *lot* that ought to be there on a page that is right at the top of the Home page with other principal links. It's a huge resource that looks as though it's being ignored IMO.

*Thousands* of Browncoats across the world listen to the various podcasts. Might be nice to have links to at least those that are still active (plus the fantastic stuff that is still available from those that aren't.) I mean I assume that active promotion of Firefly, Serenity and this amazing fandom is something that we all agree is a *good* thing?

Posting here is kind of a last resort (not wanting to pester Haken with repeated emails as I know what that can be like))

Just bumping this.

I see the long dead "radio" show thing has been removed from the Firecasts page, but now only Firefly Talk is listed.

Firefly Talk has been inactive for many months now (hopefully that may change, but not anytime soon as far as I know and it was only weekly in it's very early days, much like The Signal).

The Signal and Sending A Wave however are still extremely active, plus there's all the other links I have listed in this thread and elsewhere.

Please... once again... would it be possible to find the time to create links to all the above shows and fine audio Firefly material that is just begging to be listed on this site as new Browncoats are missing out if they come here first for info on Firefly podcasts.

Thank you

Nick

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Don't hold your breath, Lemming.

The "weekly" poll on the homepage has been the same one for nearly four years.

Good lord so it has.

Still, can't hurt to keep asking... every 6 months or so :-)

Something that I've learned over the past years that I've been here is that Haken doesn't particularly give a shit about this site anymore. It's been broken several times over the past years and his only response has been to cripple/remove the abused feature, temporary patches that don't actually solve the problem, etc. Hell, myself (among others) have offered to rewrite the site, or help to do so, several times over the years and all offers have been denied or ignored (and the request for help being removed from the info page). What he does seem to be moderately interested in, is building his new site: http://www.shinyuniverse.net/.

This, IMO, goes ridiculously far. Your podcast thing is a good example. Another one is my site search for this site (Google thing), which is just a couple lines of HTML. So, copy/paste add a new file. Probably take all of less than 5 mins.

The search is currently here: http://fireflyfans.orthogonalspace.ca/
And also mirrored here (right hand column): http://www.deliciousironing.com/

And yes, Haken has explicitly stated that he has been meaning to get around to it on this very site. One can search this site for his very words using the search above (har har).

At any rate, all I'm saying is that all you should really expect from this site's "management" is nothing. Sure, it doesn't hurt to ask every 6 months or so. But, I really wouldn't expect anything from it
