Real interesting stuff in an article over at SCIFI.COM.

According to an interview with Firefly co-star Sean Maher (who plays Serenity's Doctor, Simon Tam), the planet Earth has been destroyed and what's left of her previous inhabitants have colonized space.

"There's no more Earth," said Maher. "We're all colonizing other planets. There are two major ruling planets and there are also little planets."

Maher further added that his character "is from one of the bigger, more privileged planets, but his sister [River] has been used for this government experiment. So he paid all of this money to get his sister out and now he's a fugitive running from the law. He gets on the Firefly and joins up with the crew of this ship."

I smell a bit of Joss Whedon's Titan AE finding its way into Firefly.

How's the legal hassle? Have you convinced the cops that it was just a misunderstanding?

How so? There's no evil aliens, no magic spaceship.

Anyway, Whedon is one of 5 people with writing credits for this movie. He didn't create the story -- he was a brought in as a "script doctor".
